30TC load questions, primer and powder.
I have checked numerous sources, and have been unable to locate anything for it. I have 4 boxes of factory loads left, and 5 boxes of new brass. I have just recently started trying to find a load for it in any of the manuals. Nada, zip and zilch.
So, here is my question, in more than one part; with some info behind the question.
I am using Superformance powder, also which I cannot find any data for, and started with 47gr working up to 50gr of powder with 150 SST bullets.
47grs gave me an average of 2289fps with an SD of 87.1. 48gr gave me 2477fps with an SD of 11.9. 49gr gave me 2,534fps with an SD of 41.8. 50gr gave me 2,635fps with an SD of 9.1. I skipped all of the 1/2gr increments for saving space. All shot strings through a Caldwell chronograph. All loads with CCI BR2 primers.
First, does anyone have experience loading for the 30TC? I found an old post that had no replies.
Second, what are the benefits, or caveats, if I switch to a magnum primer versus the CCI Br2? For the slow burn powder? I personally always use the primer recommended, but in this case, there is none.
I know the 30TC never caught on, which is why I bought the brass, but I like the rifle like an ugly puppy, so I have kept it since being purchased new. I am curious on the points of the Superformance powder, I have a little over 4lbs left since the run up of the test loads and before I switch to the magnum primers. I know the powder is slow, slow on the burn rate chart, and I can, if all else fails switch over to Varget and work up with it.
