Cause of misfeed in Beretta 92?

Today I went with my brother to the range to break in his brand new Beretta 92 (Centurion). He shot fifty rounds of American Eagle 9mm, and had no problems.

I shot fifty rounds of Winchester "Winclean" and had one failure of the slide to lock back, and two misfeeds- the bullet didn't feed into the chamber properly, and caught the slide.

Could it be me "limp wristing" or something? My brother had no problems. I've rarely shot centerfire handguns, and I'm not certain how to place my hands properly. One of the ejected cases hit me in the forehead, if that says anything about my grip, or lack thereof.

Might it be a problem with the ammo? The American Eagle fed perfectly.

Or might it be normal for the break in of the gun? Thanks for your help.

When my wife bought her Beretta she had feeding problems. Stovepipes,FTF etc. We took the gun to a gunsmith and he decided that there was nothing wrong with the gun, but told us to only shoot full power, or even plus P ammo for awhile. He said that the gun is designed for this and he feels the spring and mechanical drag need this kind of impetus to break in. We bought a case of PMC and never looked back. It immediately stopped all jambs, and after about 500 rounds, she could shoot the other ammo with no problems. O do not know if this is the case with you, or even if the gunsmith was correct, all I know is that it worked.

Sounds like the first couple of problems may be magazine related. He should try to use different mags if possible. As for the round hitting you in the head, with my 92 it happens every once and a while. Sounds like it needs a "few" more range sessions to get broken in properly. My gunsmith doesn't even work on pistols unless they've had 1000 rounds through them, to be "properly" broken in. Hope this helps, Mike

Yep, it needs to be broken in. Mine would do the same thing every 3 rounds until I had 800 rnds(two trips to range..)through it.

The one "rookie" mistake I made with my new auto pistol, which a kind soul at the range corrected, was that I was resting the bottom of my magazine against the bench (when seated) or against my palm (when shooting offhand). Seems pressure on the bottom of the magazine made it "ride up" just enough to interfere with the slide and cause failures to feed. Now I leave the bottom of the handle alone and get perfect reliability.

Just in case that was part of your problem...

Winchester Win Clean Bullets were the most Likely cause, they are not very consistant.
And agree with others on break in. Buy some good ammo, PMC Ect. And break the action in.

Do you mind saying how much you paid for it? How many magazines it came with etc?

I really would love all the info you can give me on this. Ive been wanting one of those for a long time now and never knew where to get one. Thanks,
