got to: http://www.vote.com/category/10883227/ and cast your vote against utility deregulation.
I work in the utility industry and I'm telling you that deregulation is a scheme dreamed up by the big executives to get rich on...under deregulation if a rural community is not profitable to the utility ..they can simply pull out and choose not to serve you...unless you pay big bucks..they're not telling you this on the tv commercials...there's a lot more downside's to this as well...skimping on parts and materials...cutting the work force to the bone...environmental issues...haphazard handling of nuclear power stations...the list goes on...I've been there from the beginning and all I see is a disaster waiting to happen..please vote today..
Thanks

Yup, every time utilities are deregulated residential customers suffer. Their rates go sky high. No one wants to service them cause it costs too much money to supply a bunch of little customers. Utilities want the business of companies, much cheaper to supply and a lot less work.

Is this particular issue state or federal?

I don't know state from Federal on this one.

San Diego was the first city to be "de-regulated" which is a misnomer if I've ever heard one.

Basically, they de-regulated the same way they did for the cable industry. Its still a government-enforced monopoly, you have no choice as to who you buy your power from (just like cable) but they take away the price controls that make it a stable commodity. In other words, when demand is high, you pay more. When demand is low, you pay the same as you always did. In the absence of competition, the consumer will get mondo-screwed in this system.

You can click on your state and see if this issue is available for your state..if not ..vote on mine..VA...
before, utilities were gauranteed an 11 to 15% profit by the gov't, now, if deregulation passes..they will be able to make unlimited profits....and the bad thing about this whole mess is that every state is passing laws to suit them and the utilities that are padding the politicians pockets...all they have in their sights is the dollar signs..while they are ignoring the customers and their employees.
