Cast Bullets in Micro-Groove Barrels

What kind of success has anyone had in using cast bullets in Marlin Micro-Groove barrels? Specifically, I'm concerned with the 1894S in .44mag. Thanks for your input.

JL. I had good results in a Marlin 30-30 Micro-Groove by sizing the bullets .002 inch over bore diameter and heat treating the bullets to make them very hard. Then I lubed the bullets with a lube/sizer die .001 inch larger than what the bullets were sized to.
If your bore is .429 in diameter, size to .431, heat treat, and lube with a .432 inch die. A gas checked bullet will help as well.
This is what worked for me.

Things to keep in mind when using cast bullets in any firearm is what Paul already mentioned, bullet diameter and hardness, and I'll add velocity and bullet obturation. Finding the right velocity for bullet obturation is critical to accuracy, especially when using Micro Groove barrels. Key is to play with many different bullet/powder combinations as possible or save time and find someone that has already done the work. Draw from the knowledge that they give you.

Question. Are you sure that your gun has Micro Groove rifling? Only the 336 has this type of rifling in Marlins current catalog.

Roberet. The earlier Marlin .44 Mags came with Micro-Groove rifling. They've only recently gone back to a Ballard type rifling. I had one of the early ones.
For what it's worth, my loads for the 30-30 duplicate factory loads.
