Cast Bullets - 454 Casull

As my supply of vintage Bull-X 255gr SWC Keith bullets runs low, I am looking for a suitable replacement for .454 Casull. I ran these over 34gr 100/296 with no issues whatsoever. (no gas checks)The issue is that I have no idea what hardness these were, and how much more they may have hardened from age.

Missouri Bullets are 18 BRN, which passes the full power 44 magnum tests with flying colors, but seems very marginal at Casull velocities.

Other companies use BRN 22, but they don't carry the MBC reputation.

Anybody else load real Casull loads with cast?

If you can find some Lead Head bullets you can push their hard cast gas checked bullet as hard as you can. I have pushed then to 2,600 fps with no leading.

Casull bullets

I offer any of our bullets for the .454 Casull bullets in our Casull Alloy that is designed for those pressures. 340 gr. bullets are in stock. Other weights are done to order.

Thanks Robert. That is exactly the info I was looking for. Can you do your other other bullets in Casull alloy or just the two heavy ones? I'm looking for a lighter bullet to more replicate my (240gr)deer hunting load. The 255gr Keith SWC I used before was really close.

Those are probably great bullets MWM, but they cost more than my XTP-Mags hunting bullets, and my mission is to make my practice plinker and paper ammo less expensive. Thats my reason for cast, with no gas checks.

I understand... those bullets were chosen for their wide nose, to use instead of XTP's... do you cast yet ( apparently not ??? ) I've been collecting molds & other casting tools, & inherited a ton in reclaimed ingots that I helped FIL move around a couple times... I've not cast a bullet yet, but gives me something to think about in the future :)

Yes on special order I can run the other .45 bullets in that alloy. put in the special instructions are aon the order form that you want the bullets done in the Casull alloy and I'll take it from there.

Great! As soon as I figure out what I want, i'll be in touch. One final questions, and I only ask it here for the benefit of others. The 255gr SWC is a flat base instead of a bevel base which I'd not really seen before. Are there any benefits or drawbacks for flat as opposed to bevel base in my application?
