Case Trimming Shortcut

Got a Forster Standard Case trimmer long ago. I confess that I'd rather buy new brass than fight with the adjustments and cut cases too short. I was looking at spending $150 on a micrometer adjustable trimmer and it hit me. Why don't I use a spark plug gap guage? Voila. The question then becomes, why didn't I think of that before?????

I do not know. I am the fan of transfers and standards. the feeler gage is a standard, it is a transfer and I can verify it and the measurements.

I have case trimmers, two go back to the Wilson case trimmer and case holders, two that use collets, one with a universal case holder etc.. the most accurate case trimmers I own is 'The forming/trim die' before starting I can verify the accuracy without adjusting, I can also adjust even though in all appearance it is a fixed trim/forming die.

I know, why would someone adjust a trim die? When my chambers are long I add to the length of the case to off set the length of the chamber.

Cases are hand loader's gold. The cases that are resized becomes fire formed for your rifle which generates better accuracy. To do a little case trimming now and then is worthwhile.
