Carrying the S&W 642

Pocket carry aside, I was wanting to know how folks are carrying the 642. I have and Uncle Mike's pocket holser and a Fobus paddle for it. I was wondering about some ankle holsters and IWB. Let's see some pics and where I may buy one.

I carry my 442 most of the time on my ankle....I don't have a pic of the gun it in it but I did take one when I tried my DS in it...works, but the 442 really shines on the ankle at 15 ounces. Do a search of "Renegade ankle holster" and you will see nothing but positive results. The strap is a pull thru design and is very secure. The Galco ankle Glove is also a good choice, although it uses a molded holster so it's just a tad bulkier....but either way, you can't go wrong.

Found one with my 442....I like the soft leather pouch since it fits inside my half boots....:)

I also like a simple minimal IWB for the 442. MY favorite style is an offset clip, which reduces bulk by not going on top of the cylinder, like this one from Lobo.

My S&W 642-1 is an airweight stainless steel 15 oz and reclused hammer weapon. I carry it in a CA 44 Spl Bulldog holster, or another pocket holster I just bought. I never carry any gun in a pocket without a holster since I believe in covering the trigger guard. I love this weapon and shoot with better than my other weapons. I do have an IWB holoster and a paddle holster for it, but hardly ever carry it that way.:)

Carry for 442 (blued version of 642)

I have a Galco cowhide pocket holster, Uncle Mikes, and a Smartcarry. More often than not (when I am not in my home state of IL (which fails to keep up with the other States in this Union in many respects)), I use the Uncle Mike's pocket holster.

The Galco is great (and molded), but too big for anything but jacket pockets (I keep it for this reason), or a really tight fit in cargo pants. It's a no-go for my jeans. The Smartcarry (right side) works great for me, but slightly less comfortable when driving.

I have tried ankle carry but worried it was too visible.

Whatever you do, don't buy a Fobus paddle holster. I've never had a belt holster that stuck out so much. It's amazing how bad it conceals a small, thin gun like the 642. Check out Rick Garcia holsters. I will be ordering a paddle holster from him this week, I'll let you know how it turns out.

I don't have a 642 but do have other J-frames. Other than pocket carry, I'll carry IWB with a clip-on leather holster. It may be from Gould and Goodrich. I can't recall off the top of my head. I also have carried OWB in a Galco Speedmaster, a pancake style holster. I have never carried in an ankle holster. I always heard they were slow.

I carry my 642 in one of those cheap $24 ebay pancake holsters. I like it so much, I bought another one. The guy who sells them is down south somewhare if I remember right, and I found it on ebay, but bought it directly from the buyer bypassing ebay (anti- gunners don't deserve my money) They are made in the USA as well!

EDIT: I just found the guys card " www.Holster-World.com "
