Carrying on Washington Metro

I occasionally ride the DC Metro rail system, and just thought of the following. I live in VA and have a VA CCP. Can I carry on the VA portions of the Metro, in particular the portion of the Metro that runs under the Pentagon?

IIRC, it is illegal. Posted and it is involved in interstate commerce. I don't recall if it is a federal offense or state but, cartridges are forbidden. I think it comes under the same rules as a bus or other public transportation. I am not certain who is responsible for enforcement. State or federal DOT, FRA, ICC or other alphabet agency. It has been years since I rode the Metro.

thanks for the update. I'm like you, don't ride it much, and when I do its in DC so I know CC is a non-starter there. Put my car in the shop the other day and considered using it and that got me thinking. As a lot of my NoVa neighbors realize, there are so many restrictions and jurisdictions that moving about with a concealed weapon can be challenging.

I gotta keep reminding myself about the cartridge thing. I remember to leave the gun when going to certain places, but forget about the spare mag on the other hip.

I'd say no, given that Metro has posted their facilities.
I've never seen a sign and irregardless would imagine the pre-emption provision nullifies this. If I remember correctly, Metro also owns the Dulles Airport Parking lot and the Toll Roads, etc and they ended up losing that fight.

What does interstate commerce have to do with anything? Its not a question of the federal government banning it (they don't own or operate Metro - but they do own the GW parkway). I don't understand your point.

And whats this deal with cartridges being forbidden. They are illegal in DC but not in Virginia.

Of course, you can't ride Metro into DC. But I would suspect there is nothing they can do to you if you hop on the orange line at Vienna and switch to the Blue Line at Rosslyn and take it over to King Street Alexandria.

Metro not off limits

Metro is operated under the auspices of WMATA, not MWAA. WMATA has no regulation controlling firearms, or propellants like smokeless powder used in assembled ammunition components.

Some keen ideas about carrying abourd metro would be:
Don't get off at the Pentagon or Arlington Cemetary while carrying and try to avoid falling asleep on the train and ending up in MD or DC
