Carrying Moon Clips

I was just wondering for those of you that carry revolvers that accept moon clips, how and where do you carry them. Just by looking at them it seems that they (as well as speed loaders) would be hard to carry without a massive bulge.

Moon clips

I have a Sam Andrews shoulder holster rig for a 325NG that has a holder on the strong side for 6 moon clip/ammo setups. He can make it to hold however many you wish...the standard rig holds 8 clips. Also I have spring steel belt holders for extras. If you don't like those ideas you might like this "older" school idea. When I carried a 1917 S&W Strahan Custom on duty I carried the clip/ammo units in a holder designed for HKS Speedloaders; the ones for the N frame Smith's worked great.

I the nightguard as well, how do you like that holster, as I intend to purchase one in the near future. I use the spring steel clip holders, or my back pocket, which has never damaged one yet!

If you are wearing a Tux this may be an issue! Otherwise dress to carry, and it is not an issue!!!

You can't have everything. Give a guy moonclips that provide speed to save his life, and they say, "They bulge" Give a guy a pocket rocket pistol, and they say, "It is not powerful enough!"

LET ME CLUE SOME IN: THERE IS NO S&W 500 AUTO THAT FITS IN YOUR POCKETS, WITH NO BULGE, NO IMPRINTING, AND LIGHT WEIGHT!

TRADE OFFS MY FRIENDS, TRADE OFFS! CHOOSE!!!

Sam Andrews Monarch

This holster is really good. It's one of the ones that you don't have to stretch at first to make it fit and the fit is outstanding. The Monarch rig works well across the back and has a lumbar strap so that it doesn't swing when you bend. I have two of his Carjacker Crossdraw rigs for 1911s and they are great also. I like the way he makes the shoulder rig for the 325NG with full moon clip holders on the weak side. Depends on what youy want to order he'll make it to hold how many you like. His standard holds 8 full moon clips. I got him to make mine with space for 6 and I wish I'd had it made with 8. There's more room than I thought there would be.

It looks good; great quality by photos only! I love a good holster, as it makes life so much better when one carries everyday. I am looking at a McDaniels II!

I like to carry my moonclips on the front-side on my belt, like my duty mags were carried. I like to keep things simple, the same every time, and where I can use them in complete darkness.

I am with you. Carry you gun and reloads in the place you are used to them being.
At the moment I am switching around between 6 carry guns. One 1911, and 5 Revolvers. I carry them all at 4 O'Clock. (Note the 638 is also pocket carried)
Of the 5 revolvers 3 are moon clip guns. I have a 3" 625, a 2.75" 310, and a 4" 610. I carry my moonclips on the belt in "California Competition" carriers infront of my holster, strong side. In nylon wind breaker weather I will drop a couple extra moonclips in my jacket pockets for ballast to keep it from blowing open as badly if I am wearing it unzipped.
I have found that the moon clips do not print enough to worry about on the belt.

I have been carrying my 10mm moon clips in the California Competition Moon Clip Holder designed for I believe the 7 shot 686+. I was going to check my Dillon catalog to be sure, but I cannot find a copy. I think the wife must have pitched them cleaning house for Thanksgiving.

I've found a cheapy Uncle Mikes large sized speedloader pouch to work best. I took up the slack along the top of the belt loop and stitched er up so it fits tighter on the belt. In a dual pouch I cold fit four full moons filled with .45s. I used to tote various big bore revolvers fishing, and found I could use that pouch for 5 shot .41 magnum Maxfires, 5 shot 44s, 6 shot hks 41/44s, and the 45 moon clips. Even though I'm a hobby leather worker, I have yet to find a pouch that I like as much as the Uncle mikes, versatile, and you can cinch the flaps tight to stop the rounds jiggling about in the loaders. The modification to it I made really keeps its tight against the belt for minimum bulging.
