carrying firearms while on foot

My car broke down on the way to the range a few weeks ago. I had my guns in a bag in the back of the car. This happened in Kansas. If I had had to walk - could I have walked with the bag, or would this count as carrying a concealed weapon? I don't have a license, but the guns were all unloaded and in their cases. Just curious in case something like this ever happens again.

As long as their cased and unloaded you can take them anywhere that would allow firearms. Concealed is strictly if it's on your person uncased.

I used to walk from my house to where I goose hunt (then came more decoys then I could carry) and often times had a county sheriff pull off to the side and talk to me. My shotgun cased and over my shoulder, decoy bag over the other.

Hidden and loaded is the clincher

Usually as long at it is unloaded and not readily accessible (read hazardous to the officer) it is fine - might wanna tell him what's in the bag and why, just to cover your butt though.

I would just note that the question comes from Kansas, and the two answers so far are from Wisconsin and Ohio. Each state has its own laws. Personally, I would not rely on an answer from another state that doesn't cite statutes from MY state as being in any way helpful. If you don't get some answers from Kansas ... call a lawyer, and pay him/her for an hour of his or her time to sit down with you and understand the law in your state.

This is regarding vehicle carry: But many other questions are answered here also.

K.S.A. 2005 Supp 12-16,124(d) provides that “no person shall be
prosecuted under any ordinance, resolution or regulation for transporting a
firearm in any air, land or water vehicle if the firearm is unloaded and encased
in a container which completely encloses the firearm.” Again, concealed
carry licensees are not subject to local ordinances.

Hidden and loaded is the clincher

Here in Florida, no one gives a darn if the gun is loaded or not.

I perused through the Kansas section at HandgunLaw.us and it seems like local and county laws may come into play. So you may be better off calling your local sheriff.

I suspect it would have to be on your person to be concealed. Think about all those people bringing their guns into the range and to/from the car at home with it zipped up in a case.
