Carrying a pistol while dove hunting in TX?

Does anyone know actually know if it's legal to carry a handgun (without a CCW) while dove hunting on private property in Texas?

I've found quite a bit of speculation online, but couldn't get a definitive answer in the TXPW hunting guide.
 
In Texas, on your own property or on land where you're fully legal in your hunting, you can carry a handgun either openly or concealed.

I figured the ability to open carry on your own land would preempt the requirements of a plugged shotgun, as long as you're not blasting away at doves with said pistol.

There's nothing quite like the colorful variety of 4-letter words that spew from my mouth when I see a pig and have nothing but birdshot in my shotgun and no pistol on my hip.
