Carry question...

First of all let me say that I live in Illinois and concealed carry is against the law. I live in an apartment complex and I went down to help my girlfriend with some groceries. We were confronted by a stranger who wanted me to "let him borrow" some money. I informed him that I would not be loaning him any money and he kept talking. I told him to get away 3 times. The third time he finally complied. I do have a small .25 ACP CZ. It holds 8 rounds and while it isn't an elephant gun it would make me feel a little more secure. What kind of trouble would I be facing if I chose to carry the .25 with me on the complex's property at night to take out the trash or go down to mee the girlfriend and actually had to use it to defend myself? I live in a college town and robbery by knifepoint happens about 3-4 times a month. I now have my girlfriend call me before she even pulls up so I can be down there before she has to stop her car to park but I still feel like I am vulnerable to something happening to one of us. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

for people like us who live in Commie Land, my advice is carry some kind of pepper spray, the chance of you going to jail for murder+illegal carry of concealed weapon and possible charge of felony possession of a loaded weapon(yes they will tack on two charges for carrying concealed adn carrying loaded) is not a good prospect, especially for DAs looking over college towns who has to appease the 911-reliant population. They WILL portary the assailants as failureo f the system while you are a dark-hearted nut who carries a gun near families and childred(even if no one is around)

I hope spray is still legal there. It still is here last time I checked.

Man I hate our stupid laws!

If the criminal, who is already breaking the law and therefore doesn't care if he breaks one or two more, is carrying a knife or gun then I am screwed along with anyone else they want to rob. Stupid politicians. They only disarm the victims!

I feel for you Savage. My fiance's uncle lives right outside of Chicago and we have had many discussions about Illinois politics. I hate to say it, but if you're carrying a gun off of your property, i.e outside your apartment, you're gonna be in trouble if you get caught and probably face legal trouble even if it's a good shoot.

There's always the "better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6" thing, but I would recommend pepper spray, a good knife, and some really good defensive training. I'd say just move, but of course that's not really practical. It's sad when the criminals have more rights. Memphis sucks pretty bad, but we do have some good gun laws here in TN. Want I should send ya some real estate brochures? :D

Feel for you

I agree that the spray would be a good idea. We have alot of homeless in our downtown area, but they aren't pushy yet. Also some self defense classes would be a great idea. Great for ladies who don't fancy to the idea of shooting some body. But they will hit you. Can you use a taser?

I can handle myself pretty well...

I practice Jui-Jitsu, boxing, and kickboxing in my university's martial arts club as well as with my brother and some friends while at home. I am about 6'2" 215 lbs, but none of that matters when the guy wanting to "borrow" my money pulls out a gun or a knife. A kid actually got murdered down here 4 blocks from my apartment the week after school started. Two guys stabbed him in the heart for $4 because he saw their faces. He died before they even got him in the ambulance.

I wish one Illinois anti-gun politician (or any anti-gunner) for that matter could sit down and have a logical discussion about why they feel guns should be taken away from law abiding citizens. They have to realize they will never be able to get rid of all guns. There are millions worldwide and criminals will always find a way to get them. As long as the criminals "victims" are armed as well it's not as much as a problem, but take our guns away and you are feeding us to the lions!
