Carry Question

Summers in Florida mean light clothing and I am usually in "Cargo" shorts and a t-shirt. My CCW has to be kinda small.

I have a .380 that I usually carry but have recently been considering a .38 lightweight. (Something like my wife's Taurus model 85.) How is the best way to carry a reload? Speedloaders seem to be kinda bulky and loose ammo seems kinda slow.

My wife uses a fanny pack so she can carry a speedloader easily. I am not interested in a fanny pack. I have an IWB for my .380 Colt and like it.

I carry a S&W638 a lot. My bikers vest is a concealment vest with 2 inside pockets of 600 denier nylon lined made for a pistol. I carry the revolver in the left pocket and 2 Bianchi Speed Strips in the right one.
I was a cop beginning back in 69. I can remember when speed strips came out. Thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. Used them then and still. Not as fast as speed loders but you can load 2 at a time and do it pretty quick with practice. Beats loose rounds and the speed loader bulge in your pocket. ;)

Another option which is slower than speed strips, but easily carried is the MTM ammo wallets. They come in 6, 12, & 18 round sizes. The six round wallet dissappears in a pocket, yet is easy to grab.

Look for the Colt Agent and Colt Cobra revolvers for hot weather CCW. These are lightweight snubbie .38's with six shots. The Colt Agent has a smaller grip than the Colt Cobra for added concealability, but I like the Cobra for the hand filling grip.

For loading, you ought to check out the speed strips. Easy to hide and the keep the rounds together for quick loading.

Hawaiian shirts over colored t-shirt and jeans/dockers. Belt holster holds H&K USPcLEM or Beretta 96D. No prob. Leave the shirt unbuttoned. It works in Miami. Second choice is P-11, PPK or S&W36 each in a pocket holster. :D

Since this is the Revolver forum - -

- - :p I kinda alternate between an old model Colt Agent and an S&W M37, Chiefs Special Airweight, carried in an Alessi Nemesis pocket holster. A single Speed Strip rides nicely in my right hip pocket - -Much more comfortably than any round speedloader. Of course, any of the alloy J-frames would carry as nicely as the M37. Both of these little revolvers have had the hammer spurs removed, but I can still manage single action fire.

I also have an old Davis shoulder holster that rides well under a patterned shirt, for even deeper concealment. In hot weather, with a colored t-shirt and open cover shirt, it is fairly rapid, too.

Best,
Johnny

I understand that this is the revolver forum.........however the basics of carrying are the same with all like-sized handguns. If you want to substitute a S&W M66/686 on the hip and any manner of Jframe in the pocket - no prob. ;)

I carry my 642 and Sp101 in a smartcarry holster. The holster has a mag/speedloader pocket right next to the pocket for the pistol. I can carry the 3” SP in the smartcarry and have nothing else on but shorts or swim suit (not a speedo) :D and nobody knows I’m carrying.
