my wife bicycles to workevery day and we cant seem to find a good concealed holster that will keep it snug as she rides. she carries a sig p238 with extra thick grips. we tried the flashbang but the kydex wasnt molded right for he grips and it didnt seem secure. any ideas. she said no phany packs and no ankle holsters we run a truckstops so it needs to be something that she doesnt have to relocate when she clocks on

A belly band holster should do the trick. Unless her work attire is fitted. I would say backpack but the most crucial thing is she can get to the weapon fast enough if need be. Belly band is where I'd start looking.

thought about it :) i was toying with the idea of a mares leg in a .38/.357
belly band might be what we are after

You might take a look at the holsters from Simply Rugged and see if you think they might work. I have one for a revolver and it rides close and tight to my body. As for the grips I guess you could call them and discuss the situation and see what they might recommend.

very dependent on what she is wearing while riding the bike. Could be anything from form fitting spandex, to regular clothes. Most comitted cyclists wear spandex, depending on weather, and you couldnt conceal a peanut in that stuff. However, if there is some lee way, like packs, regular clothes, shorts with pockets, etc, it all changes. At some point she must change something to get into work attire, in some private place, which would provide an opportunity to switch gun locations. The Sig 238 should be able to hide in quite a few ways. I would go for some cycling shorts that have an outer, regular looking short layer, with some decent pockets, and carry the gun there, in a pocket holster. I did a ride yesterday with a j frame in a pocket holster in my bike shorts pocket, and I didnt think about it at all while riding.

I keep mine in a zipped pouch on my camel-bak. I know it's not readily accessible in a hurry but I don't think I'll be shooting it while I'm actually riding. But then again, I ride out on trails and very rarely in town. I've tried putting in on my body but haven't found anything yet that works for me on those hard rides.

I carry a Kimber Pepper Blaster in my back jersey pocket (with nothing else in that pocket). Not quite the same, but it fits nicely and it's light weight. I always thought about the wallet holster for an LCP there as well.

she wants something that she can access with out much work. as far as clothes it is jeans and a t shirt. i think the belly band or a deep conceal shirt would work best but it would be nice to know of other options

I don't know what kind of work your wife does, but I use a Hill People Gear "Kit Bag" which rides on the chest (like a fly fishing bag) and it's my prefered outdoors concealed carry method. It works well for kayaking and mountain biking.

Another option is to secure the pistol/holster in a handle-bar bag while riding.

My wife designed a small holster for her Kel-Tec P3AT that is clipped to her bra; it's not fast to access, but is secure and goes unnoticed. The P238 may be too heavy for that though.

Perhaps your wife should think about what she's carrying rather than how she's carrying?

I usually carry a 1911 in either .45 or 9mm. I've had a number of "pocket" guns but the truth is that none of them were really pocket friendly. Riding a bicycle with the gun going clunk, clunk, clunk on your leg while you're pedaling isn't conducive to a good time. Wearing a fanny pack works but who likes fanny packs? (OK I admit I used to have one). If you're wearing light shorts it becomes a bigger issue.

My solution was to (buy another gun:D). What did I buy? A Keltec P32. It is half the weight of the P238, thinner and flatter and holds one more round. Sure ballisticly the .380 is superior but a good self defense loading in .32 isn't anything to sneeze at. I carry mine in a paddle style kydex holster. The little gun "snaps" right in. I can ride all day and not even know it's there unless needed.

Why not just an OWB holster with a covering garment? I'm not a particularly large guy, and do this regularly with a Springfield EMP. Since she's biking, wearing a jacket makes sense, and simply having an untucked shirt should be enough for a small pistol like the 238.

For biking in Seattle area and outlying areas,

used a fanny pack, in-front of the disappearing belly fat.

Very comfortable and drops away from you in a forward pedaling position.

Wingnutgear.com has some hydration packs with side-bolster zipper pouches that are perfect for easy access to a ccw without removing the pack.
