I've sent the below inquiry to the Ohio Attorney General, but wanted some opinions from TFL. UD is a private university, but I believe they get some state or federal funding, so I think this still applies and that they can't have their own rule? Someone gets shot or stabbed or killed every single day and night in Dayton - and while campus is safe, right off campus is questionable to me. Kind of like - red lights are optional if cars pull up next to you if you know what I mean.
The bill states that carry in or on University property is prohibited, unless locked in a motor vehicle or in the process of being locked in a motor vehicle. I am a commuter graduate student to the University of Dayton - who has a rule prohibiting firearms. Is the University permitted to do this?
Please give me some guidance on which rule or law takes presendence here. I take all night classes, and Dayton is in my opinion a dangerous city. I would like the privelege of protecting myself, but do not wish to break the law or the rules.
Any comments or feedback otherwise is welcome.
