Carbon 15 - Has PO finally figured it out?

I looked into buying one of their rifles back in 99 but I was advised to pass on it due to reliability issues which seemed to be innate with the weapon. However, PO seems to be growing. Their products are now being carried in some of my local shops. I see more and more vendors carrying these at gun shows. I'm hearing good things about their customer service department. And they've introduced a newer model (97S) with full length Weaver rail and iron sights. Have they finally worked all the bugs out of these rifles? The C15 has an enormously high cool factor for me and although I desperately want one, I'm not willing to dish out $800+ for a jam-o-matic. So could any of you that have a current production model (year 2001) C15 rifle give me a run down of the problems you are having (or not having)?

Thanks and regards,

I have never looked into their reliability, but I have always been impressed when I picked up the rifles at gun shows because they are so dang light. I have never heard of any problems with them, but then again I have not been paying much attention either.

It's an AR isn't it?
Those same dollars could get you a .223 VEPR II that will never let you down and is more accurate.

It's sort of an AR15. http://www.professional-ordnance.com/

The upper receiver, lower receiver, hand guard, and butt stock are made from carbon fiber, as I understand it. The barrel is a very slim profile. This makes the rifle very light (just pick one up at the next gun show). The parts in the lower receiver are compatible with standard AR15 parts, but the parts in the upper receiver are proprietary. I'm not sure what the bolt carrier is made out of, but it's probably something lighter than a standard AR15. Also, the rifle doesn't come with iron sights, only a rail. (The pistol looks ridiculous! Might as well get a carbine.)

I would like to shoot one to see how the lack of mass affects perceived recoil.

It's funny that I don't hear too much about them, especially on http://www.ar15.com

i heard on the AR list that POs have unlocked the charging handle while firing.
The slot that it is supposed to latch into is supposedly rounded.

I had

A professional ordnance Carbon 15 type 97 for awhile.

It double fed once in awhile, but it was sure light and handy. YOu can take the stock off and fire it one handed, like a big pistol. IT was kind of cool.

dz,

I have a Carbon 15, and the charging handle problem is easily fixed. You just have to "square" up the latching hole, and the latch is solid. I never had it come loose, but I could see where it could.

Sorry George,

But the VEPR just doesn't do anything for me.

Q-Man,

The new model 97S does INDEED have iron sights.
