whats the difference between a CARBINE and a RIFLE .. i THINK that a carbine is a rifle that fires pistol ammunition .. and a rifle obviously only fires hi power rifle ammo ( as if there was low power rifle ammo LOL)..
am i right ?.. if i am .. then in that case .. a subgun and a carbine are one in the same ?.. like an UZI 9mm, and a lever action .357.. both fire pistol ammo .. even though the uzi is an evil black gun, and the .357 is a lever action 'cowboy gun'...
????????????????? yes or no ?

Ol farts useage. Carbine is a short barreled version of a rifle, sharing the same action. Cartridge has nuttin to do with it.

98 Mauser with 28" or so barrel is rifle. Same gun made with 24"ish barrel is a carbine.

Teaser.....1873 Winchester, first model, Lever action. Rifle 24" barrel, Carbine 20" barrel, and Musket...30" barrel. Same cartridges applicable to all three.

And it depends on era...a 44" matchlock, as opposed to 50" barrel is a carbine.

Today, typically, a carbine is under 20". A rifle is over.
