Carbine companions...

9x19

Anyone else like this concept?

I have two Marlins that can share mags with my two Kel-Tec P-11s. I alos have a Ruger PC4 that can share mags with my (recently purchased at auction for $260) P944T.

There is a, soon to be delivered, Ruger PC9 that can share mags with my four Glocks. I had a Marlin 1894CS as a companion to my S&W 686 and Ruger GP100, but it was REAL finicky about cartridge oal, so I'm currently without a carbine in .357. Maybe a Rossi 92 for that role next...

So, how about y'all?

I think that there certainly is merit whenever you can share a magazine between two guns. That just makes things that much more consolidated.

However, I am not a big fan of pistol caliber carbines for home defense or open field use. I feel that the velocity gain is minimal vs. a full sized handguns. So now you are saddled with a much larger, heavier package to carry / operate with. As for the longer sight radius of the carbine, I feel that pistol rounds are limited in effective range anyway, and longer shots should be made with rifle cartridges. But the above is just my opinion... Take it for what its worth...

From a fun standpoint of just plinking and shooting, then the convience of only taking one or two types of rounds out to the range is great...

Depends on what rubber ruler you are using.

I'm told that some 45acp loads slow down out of a carbine barrel.

The 9x19 is a different story. It'll pick up 200/300 fps out of a carbine. That's 357 mag energy and more.

The 357 mag and 41 and 44 mags in lever actions can pick up 400-550 fps from a carbine barrel. That is close to doubling their muzzle energy.

Darned if I know what happens in 40 ****.

As far as that goes, the lever actions are snap hunting guns.

Do I recall Ruger's gonna chamber the No.1 in 454? Now THAT might do right well.
