Car Carry In Alabama

I live in Georgia and have a GA conceal carry permit and they reciprocate with Alabama. I will be traveling in Alabama and keeping my gun in my SUV which has no trunk. Am I exempt from keeping the gun in a locked compartment or anything like that since I have a recognized CCW permit. Am I required to inform the officer there is a gun in the car if I get stopped

I believe the answers are no and no. Double check the law as stated above. Just speak highly of SEC football and don't get caught speeding.

It appears the answers are "Yes" and "No."

Keep in mind that an out-of-state license, even though recognized by Alabama, is not issued by Alabama and thus does NOT shield you from the federal Gun Free School Zone Act. You can't possess your firearm within 1,000 feet of any school property.

As an aside, where did you find a requirement to keep a firearm in a locked container in an SUV with no trunk? If you are thinking of the federal Firearms Owners Protection Act (FOPA), that applies if you are traveling through a state. You wrote that you will be traveling "in" Alabama. If that's the case, the FOPA does not apply. That said, Alabama state law substantially echoes the requirements of the FOPA for vehicular carry/transport within the state.

Nothing in Alabama law specifically states you have to present your
Permit/
License to an Off
icer
on
demand.

From the handgun law link.

I live in a county here in GA bordering AL and spend time in both states. Some family members owns property on Lake Weiss. You won't have any issues carrying a gun in the vehicle in Alabama.
