CAR 9mm Question

Can I put a shorty barrel on a CAR 9mm, currently with a 16" barrel? How much of a PIA is this? I just really dig those shorty barrels. I think they are 10" or so? Thanks.

Not sure of the question, but you can't legally put a barrel less than 16 on any firearm with a shoulder stock or which will end up less than 25" long, without an OK from BATF. In this case, the barrel length can include a muzzle brake if it is welded to the barrel and not readily removable, but that would still be a 16" barrel for practical purposes.

It is OK to make a short-barrel rifle (SBR) but you need to file the form and pay the tax ($200).

Don't know if Alabama is a class-III friendly state. If it is, you'd have to get police and BATF approval as well as pay $200 tax and put up with all kinds of Crap to do it. You didn't mention who made your lower. The Colt lowers are more difficult to convert to .223. IMHO, .223 uppers are more effective than 9mm in short barrels. Louder, yes, but much more effective.
