Can't get AR gas block off?

Hey guys, I'm wanting to get into the gunsmithing thing and I am trying to practice on my DPMS AR. I am trying to take of the gas block to put on a front sight base so i can use the irons. I've thought about using some of the flip-ups but i like the look of the standard A2 front sight. My problems is that I cannot get the GB off. There are two pins at the bottom and I break them loose and the block isn't budging at all whatsoever. I took a small rubber mallet to it and still nothing. If you guys could PLEASE help me I'd greatly appreciate it. I just want to know if I'm completely missing something or what. And YouTube or a simple search isn't helping me at all. Thanks everyone!
 
If they put it on with locktite, you will need to heat up the gas block slightly (don't over do it) to get it loose (then tap it after you heat it up)

Are they tapered pins? If so you need to completely remove them before the gas block can be removed. Can you post a picture?
 
The gas block is either held on with pins or with set screws. If yours is held in with pins, you need to punch them from left to right out of the sight completely. If set screws, I would just back them out completely.

Set screws may be held in with locktite, but pins are typically not. A hammer and punch to remove them completely will be in order. Some pins are tapered, and some strait. You need to be sure when you put them back in, they go back in the same way with taper pins.
 
They are not taper pins, they're set screws that go into the bottom of the gas block. The only other pin I see on there is the one for the gas tube but it has nothing to do with taking off the GB. I have yet to heat it up. And here are three pictures.

You might try using an adjustable wrench that will fit the flats and see if you can get it to turn back an forth to loosen it up. Normally you would use blue locktite on those type screws and shouldn't really need heat to loosten it up unless for some reason they used red locktite, but then I doubt you would have been able to loosen the set screws without heat. Were the set screws really tight or did they come out fairly easily?
 
You are going to need to have the barrel drilled for the pins for the front sight base, so you might as well take it to a competent gunsmith and have them get it off, and install the new one.
