Can't Decide Torn By Two Loves

I need advice oppinions on why you would choose one gun over the other, or which gun would you buy if you had to choose one. Im torn between the Glock19 because theres no way ill ever have a G18 so ill settle lol and a Ruger Gp100. Im stuck because they are both very different guns and im in love with them both

But seriously, they're both great guns. I'd get the more versatile GP first, then save up for the G19. However, if you're planning on carrying it, go for the Glock obviously.

Pure ignorance and i apologize i don't want to sound harsh but how is the gp more versatile? i always assumed that semi's were more versatile . Thanks for the correction on the glock comparison, always good to learn from people with more experience :D

What would you be using this gun for?

That may help with your reply's.

I would choose the Glock myself

- Higher capacity
- More compact
- Lighter to carry
- Easier to conceal
- Ammo is cheaper

honestly i dont see me carrying it although im getting my ccw in a week or so. If anything i would keep it by the night stand or in the glove of my car. i may carry once in a blue moon but i doubt it for now. I probably will use it to go camping and for home defense a lot.

Well the GP, imo is more versatile in the sense that it is capable of firing a huge, vast assorment of ammo, 38's or .357's. You can hunt with it, use it as home defense, tuck defense, or blast away at the range.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all saying that the Glock isn't useful for many duties too, just that if I were only going to buy one, and wasn't going to use it for concealed carry, I'd get the GP.

For carry it seems the g19 is the right choice and for the price of ammo its logical but theres something so classic to a wheel gun, its like buying a great suit and the glock is like a pair of sneakers almost . I think im going for the gp, and hopefully after paying for school if i have any money left and save a little more maybe you can sell me that vbob when your done with her :p

I had a similar predicament....

I ended up purchased a 686 4" no dash from a local shop and then a year later picked up a G19.

Best of luck, good news is they are both good options.

The GP100 makes a great jack of all trades. The downside is the difficulty in concealing it and the cost of factory ammunition. Nothing sucks more than going to the range and thinking about how much each shot is costing you. Hold off on the 357 until you've got.money to blow or you start reloading.

In your situation I would suggest the G19. Enough firepower to handle anything on two legs and so cheap to shoot that you've got no reason not to practice. If you decide to carry at some point the G19 will be much less troublesome.

how much is 357. rounds going for now offline more or less? I think i'll probably end up with the ruger to be honest. Im not to worried about carrying as i dont seem doing it anytime soon, im actuall getting my ccw for security just in case i do have a firearm in the car so i can avoid some trouble and have the law on my side, also no waiting period is a nice perk :D

Hands down the Ruger GP 100

You can shoot .38 specials for range time and they are close to 9mm in cost. Also, you have the option of using .357's for home defense.

The revolver gives you the choice of two calibers the Glock only 1 :)

I like Glocks but, they are a bit plain and everyone seems to have one.
Revolvers are things of beauty..

I cant think of anything a hailstorm of 9MM can do that two or three well placed .357's cant do. Although I dont own a GP. I do own several .357's from another well known manufacture. As it happens I also own a Glogk 19, and a Glock 23.

First off... both handguns the Glock, and the GP are service sized pistol, and revolver. Although the Glock 19 is a little smaller than the 17, it's still a service pistol. While they are both concielable. They are basically made to be carried in the open or at least in a outside the pants belt holster.

It comes down to the same old revolver vs. auto argument. And thats a personal choice depending on one's needs, and prefference. I have carried both as a service weapon, in plain clothes as a duty weapon, and off duty as a personal concielment weapon. Again it's what works for the individual IMO

Which handgun (not for CC), G19 or GP100? GP100.
Reasons for GP100 over the G19:
1. Revolver grip on GP100 is more comfortable than any Glock (for me).
2. .38 in GP100 would be more pleasant to shoot than 9mm in a G19.
3. GP100 gives you two ways, SA and DA, to shoot the handgun.
4. .38, .38+p, .357 ammo gives enough variety for SD and range practice.
