Cannons?

Seeing as how the "punkin chunkin" thread hasn't been booted, I hope this won't either.

Does anyone know how to get into the cannon shooting and cannon matches that Isee on American Shooter?

Where do you go to look for cannons?

Thanks!

I think most of those are home-made. I know a guy who picks up all the brass he can. Eventually he wants to cast a little 1/2 scale cannon.

I believe that as long as it's of the muzzle-loading black powder variety, the ATF has no restrictions on ownership. Consult your local lawyer.

Talk to other Cannon Cockers...
Just listen for the BOOMS. ;)

I have seen a couple of these gatherings. These guys are often found in "Reinactments" by the bunches. Find guys playing civil war - and you will find the Cannons. There you will find the answers to your questions. Good luck with it... and post us some pics! :D

Steve I posted a thread a few months ago Entitled "DOES ANYONE OWN A CANNON" in the General Discussion Forum. I would try looking up that thread and you will find links to a few places you can order Cannons. I was involved in a Few Revolutionary War Re-enactments in Fort Washington PA a few years ago and I've loaded and fired a few of them myself.

Soda, thank you very much!

Okie, I've been looking at mortars, too...not sure on the final answer for this.

Payette Jack, I'm not really interested in going "little" with this project. :D

George, will do, but this is obviously not an overnight project. Don't expect anything for several months.

When centerfire rifles just aren't enough, consider wheeled artillery!

Cannons! Is this a great country, or what?

Yeah, pretty darn good. Best I know.

Of course, it'd be better if ya could have MODERN fieldpieces in your garage. Only thing I ever agreed with Pat Buchanon on that I know of...

(paraphrased)
"registration of guns? well.. if you need to back your truck up to it move it, it might oughta be registered. Otherwise, no way."
