Canik VP9 v2

I had an opportunity to test drive one of these today. The owner was having accuracy issues with his other CZ 75 clone Canik so we took a break and checked the TP9.

Wow.

This thing is scary accurate. I consider my P01 pretty tight but this thing shot a 1"-ish group at 7 yards rested. Wish I had taken a picture as it was quite shocking. The trigger was...odd, like a two-stage first pull but everything after that was short and very little creep.

That is all, just a report.;)

The TP9 is a DA/SA striker... It has a decocker for the same reasons a Sig 226 or Beretta 92 has a decocker.

It puts the pistol into DA mode, which is considered the safe carry position.

I played around with a Walther P99, which the TP9 is based on, and the trigger was interesting. I didn't like the break point, it felt too far to the rear physically, like my finger was about to touch my palm. That is a subjective complaint, and the TP9 may not have that problem for me. I kind of want to try one, maybe get one, just so I can have a DA/SA striker...

You mentioned it is a DA/SA striker. Does that longer first stage cock the striker somehow? It had no resistance, felt like a two stage rifle trigger.

When you first load up the pistol, it will be in anti stress mode, where it acts like a two stage.

If you decock the striker using the decocker, the trigger will feel more like a standard DA, as it fully cocks the striker with the pull.

Subsequent shots would be in SA mode, and I believe the trigger does not act like a two stage.

I need to get a hold of one again and confirm this though.

This is correct.

My Canik TP9V2 Review

I want to Pick up a TP9 of some sort, but I can't make up my mind which one I want. I'm leaning toward the TP9SF though as it doesn't have the decocker on the top.

I couldn't really tell, are these polygonal barrels or something? I can't figure out why it was so darn accurate. Seriously, I could cover five shots with my thumb at 7 yards, rested.

Looks like my TP9V2 has a regular old common rifled barrel. I can shoot the thing better than about any gun I have, including my S&W 5906, Tanfoglio "Mossad/TA88, or my Taurus PT111 G2. I don't know exactly why, but it seems very easy to hit what I want with it.

I really like the Canik TP series pistols. Very impressive in every respect. I picked up a V2 tonight to go with my TP9SA. The only thing that I wish Canik would do is standardize on the details. Both guns use completely different sights. The V2 sights are taller and larger with the front sight being dovetailed. The SA sights are low profile and the front sight is slid in from the front like a CZ75. Also, the V2 doesn't have a loaded Chamber Indicator like the SA....seriously! Pick the options and stick with them..
