Canada says NO to US deserters......

I just saw the AOL News clip when getting online... It stated that Iraq war deserters from US not getting a free pass. I say 3 cheers for the Canadian's on this one. Some of the deserters on record say they wouldn't go because they argued they would be forced to commit atrocities against civilians. I am unsure if non AOL users will get this start page but I think so. www.aol.com

Canada signed an agreement shortly after the end of the Viet Nam war stating they would not accept deserters and draft dodgers. Of course, treaties are made to be broken-ask any American Indian!

Your so very right about both the native American and the Vietnam document. I think Canada has decided to stay on track with the promises made after Vietnam. The soldiers are deserter's - and in time of war that places so much more importance on this whole issue... Thanks for your input :)
 
Well, there is some argument-which I think should have had consideration of some sort, where guys deserted during their mid-tour leave from Viet Nam.

They ended up doing hard time for breaking the law. The draft dodgers served something like 18 months community service and no felony on their record. Sure, there is and should be consequences for desertion, but I wonder why those who served a half tour suffered greatly, while those who ran are not also felons?
 
I figure if they take in terrorists, aliens, idiots, and then regurgitate them back to the U.S., they can take our deserters too...except keep them, along with all the others. In my career I came to dislike the puke canadians(in general) as much as any other foreign contagion, speaking in terms of illegal immigration, that is. But then that opens up the racist aspect of U.S. immigation policies. Goes to show people, no one will support the U.S., not even the citizens who desert it's armed forces.
 
Take heart, Mr. Bill. There are a lot of Americans who support this country through thick and thin. The real backbone of this country, who rarely get the press they so richly deserve. Just every day people with the guts and the grit to get it done-everyday. There's more of us than there is the whiners, runners and losers. Has to be-otherwise, our home would have fallen apart a long time ago!
 
Good screw 'em. Let 'em go to Mexico... I think that would be interesting for TJ to have an American immigration problem, oh wait... we are a free and better country so the masses usually want to come here, but not fight for it. I thought about this one time...

Lets take all of the illegal aliens... instead of deport them, enlist them for 4 years, give them a no questions asked green card, and the process is complete in less time, with less hassle, taught the alien english, American customs and courtesies, and most of all discipline and the wonderful concept of having a weapon, and for us... we get a larger military, and can save a little more on recruiting expenses... Then we deport deserters to the UAE.

Sort of like an American Foreign Legion, oweing homage to the French who created such a thing.
