Can you shoot a .22long rifle out of a .22 magnum?

No. The reason, if I remember correctly, is that 22 mag bullets are slightly smaller in diameter.

Nope, 22mag has larger case diameter.

If you want a light load try CCIs 22WMR ammo. If you want to save money, don't.
