Can you modify a Steyr M40 into 357 SIG?

I have read that alot of .40 owners of various handguns can have drop in barrels to change to 357 SIG. Does this work on the M40? Anybody try it? If so, where did you get the barrel and any other necessary parts to do so? Thanks

Yes, a Steyr M357 barrel will fit and function in a Steyr M40 (and vice versa). When I had an M40 and M357, I tried this, and had 100% success. Unfortunately, Steyr is not presently selling spare barrels. I know of no third-party manufacturers who are making Steyr pistol barrels.

Any good gunsmith can make you a barrel, the question is if you are willing to pay for it. Royce Weddle use to make a one piece barrel with the compensator built in, all in one piece, out of a Douglas barrel blank for the 1911 in your choice of caliber. $700, including fitting, and a 2 year wait. That was about 20 years ago.

I am currently putting together a 357 sig project in my head. All my options are still open. In your case, if you already have a 40 cal pistol, that 357 sig round has got some giddyup to it. I'd go for the conversion! ;)
