Can you identify this semiauto I found in my garage?

Lightsped

I found this Browning out in my garage. Don't worry, no rust or anything nasty. It was sealed zipped up in a pistol case which was in a giant tool box.

Can anyone tell me about this gun as I am not familar with Brownings. I'd like to identify the year in which it was made and anything else I should know about it....

Thanks

That is a Hi-Power. Can't be sure what year it is cause the pic is too dark. But it has a non combat hammer which would make it more recent (within 20 years) in manufacture.

Get the serial number and call Browning and they will tell you when it was manufactured. Then you can look it up and know what it is worth. There will be plenty of buyers.

You're obviously being framed for a mob hit.

You have no choice but to send the pistol to me. Hurry, there's little time left before the police show up with a search warrant.

Dude! thats mine!

Sorry I left it there. Wow, I was wondering where that got to. email me and I'll give you the address to which you can send it. I'll spring for shipping.

Thanks,
Mike

Congrats

You just found yourself one of the finest semi-auto pistols ever made. Enjoy and make John Moses Browning proud =)

Lightsped, you lucky dog! All I find in my garage is dead insects and unfinished projects.

That is one sweet Browning, before you fire it I suggest a complete takedown, clean and relube. Lubricants can deteriorate over time -- any idea how long it's been in the garage? Also suggest a function check using snap caps before using live ammo.

Enjoy!

All I ever find in my garage is old warped pieces of wood.

No, honestly, I found the gun in the garage. It is my dads, and he evidentally forgot about it.

Anyone know what is up with the red interior where the magazine goes?

Hello. If your HP, you lucky dog, has checkered wooden factory stocks, the back side is sealed with red paint. That's what you're seeing. As was mentioned earlier, go to www.fnhipower.com, plug in the ser # and get the year of manufacture.

Best.

Welcome to the world of the BHP! Get to know that windfall well, you're going to love it. It'll change your life!

(Me, a BHP fanatic? Naah...)

Owner's manual

I recently came into one myself, and if it the SN is something like 74CXXXXX, then it means it's a Hi Power (C) manufactured in 1974 (74). Check www.browning.com and they should have the info on the site.

More importantly, I called about the date on mine and they offered to send an owner's manual free of charge. Did I mention it's free? By the way, it was free.

Check Six.

Wow, a Browning Hi-Power just laying around the garage - and a good looking one too fif the picture is accurate.

Like many others have suggested you can get the year by looking at Browing's website or http://www.fnhipower.com and checking the serial number.

Just from looking at the gun I can tell you that it was made in the 1970s or that your father had the hammer changed on it to prevent hammer bite. The combination of the spur hammer and the tiny safety is kind of unusual and only happened for a short period from the early/mid seventies to 1981.

If you want to learn more about the gun, I strongly recommend you visit fnhipower.com as there is a lot of good information there.
