Can The "Affordable Care Act" Do This???

My wife received this in the mail recently and showed it to me this morning. I told her I am refusing to give her that information for that purpose. She is a bus driver and has drove for the same school district for almost 20 years. Of course she is concerned this could cost her her job if I don't eventually capitulate. I am sure she has this information somewhere but that's not the point.

I feel like I have been kicked in the guts:mad:!

Is this in the "Affordable Care Act" or this entity over-reaching?

Has anyone else seen a notice like this or is it only for those getting a government paycheck?

Can she be forced to give up my personal information as a condition of employment?

Please folks let try to keep this from getting locked, call the law by it's real name "Affordable Care Act". There are several on here I would value their opinion if they decide to respond.

I assume the "TRS" is referring to Tricare? If so, the information may be required to claim those benefits.

As far as being a condition of employment...I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure they can't require that.

TRS is "Teachers Retirement System" Their website is titled "Teachers Retirement System Of Texas" < http://www.trs.state.tx.us/ >Sorry I should have put that in the original post.

My wife works for the school district and not TRS but she will be eligible for retirement from them instead of Social Security when she retires.

Another question I have is if I don't participate in the ACA can that become a criminal act that could make me in-eligible to purchase or own firearms. If I pay the penalty (oh wait a minute it is a tax) shouldn't that take care of any criminal charges.

Anyone in a bureau has a lot of gall asking for that info point-blank like that after the recent/ongoing Chinese hacking scandal that lifted every last scrap of info collected for federal clearance background checks (names, history, addresses, SSN's, similar data for references/contacts, advantageous information [blackmail], and even fingerprints)

A fifth grader would know it's "ALL Employees" not "ALL Employee's".

If they can't get that right why trust them with your identity?

Well Rick the answer to you're question is the guys who do server security don't write the forms or questions. It's like saying a banks safe isn't secure because someone put pens in the jar labeled lollipops.... typo's happen.

But none of that is relevant. The main reason they do this is that the feds want to know who people are getting coverage through if it's not their employer and who might be getting benefits from them. The main way the feds track us is through our SS#. When you file taxes (there's the SS# again) you'll be asked if you get medical from your employer, and if not where are you getting it. If you get it from your spouse, they then have to check and see if you're covered or not. The employers are going to report your are... or aren't covered based on your SS.

It's not a perfect system, it just is.

It didn't come across in my post, but actually I wasn't thinking of cyber security; I was thinking "Teacher Retirement System" and teachers and incorrect usage. Guess you had to have been in my head to get it.
Sorry
Rick

But still what does this have to do with firearms? As I recall it is still optional to have your social security number on the 4473 form.

We've had non firearm discussions before as long as it falls under law and civil rights. You don't have to participate if it bugs you.

TRS is not self insured as far as I know. I think my wife has insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Using the words "Is requiring All employees" and "You Must sigh off with this information" presented like it is, is, is!!!! well I guess beyond my wit to put into words.

I have actually relaxed since seeing this mainly as a result of knowing how I am going to deal with it. If it cost my wife my job is guess that will just be another thing that is my fault. This ain't gonna ruin my day.

Have a great day!

If you, or other dependents are covered by a family insurance plan it seems reasonable enough. If not, I'm not sure.

One possible reason is so they can determine if you have insurance coverage anywhere else. In 1984 when my daughter was born I had a family insurance policy. My wife had insurance of her own through her work. Each policy paid 80% of the costs of the hospital bills, or 160%. In other words all the bills were paid 100%, and we got a check for the other 60%.

That has since changed and no longer allowed. I'm not sure exactly how they deal with it when you have dual coverage now, but all insurance providers want to know if you have other insurance. I don't think they will pay more than 100% of the bills between them.

Just a guess really, but the best I can think of.
