Can someone tell me how to convert Sigma mags to Steyr m40 mags?

I may be purchasing an m40 (dealer wants $329) and I was wondering about this little mag switcheroo I remember hearing about. Also can someone help me about the trigger mod. This serial number is way below 10000 however upon pulling the trigger I found it to be very crisp. Last thing, is their a preference between the handcuff key model and the steyr specific key model?

IIRC the handcuff key model should come with the full capacity magazines (12 rounders ... but for LEOs only) I personaly have never even seen a picture of the handcuff key one. If I had the option I'd get that one ... if nothing else because it's unique :) also, the keys that come with the non-handcuff ones are flimsy and could easily be bent and/or lost. At least a handcuff key is easy to replace and probably stronger (although other then when the gun was shipped to me by the guy I bought it from, I've never used the internal lock).

If it hasn't had the trigger job you should probably pass since I don't know how soon there will be someone in the US who will do the free trigger upgrade (GSI is no longer the importer and the new importer may not be doing the trigger upgrades yet) however if the trigger feels good it's probably already had the upgrade.

As for using Sigma magazines I'd love to know if that's possible too.

sigma mag retrofit to styer

i am wanting to do the same thing. i read that the sigma magazines will work, too. you have to make another hole for the magazine catch, that is all! use the styer magazine as a guideline and put the hole in the same place. my problem is finding sigma magazines. i would be happy with 10 rounders. i cannot find any thats affordable.

Should the "Cut-a-notch" trick on the Sigma 9 mags as well for the M9? If yes, then I know where I'm going on Monday.

Ok so we know we need to cut a notch but has anyone here done that. If so where there any drawbacks ie the slide doesn't hold or it sticks out of the gun profusely?

I have done the sigma/steyr m9 magazine conversion successfully. I then had the stainless sigma mags (only way they come) black Cobra coated by Virgil Tripp. I also recontoured the bottom plate so it flows with the contour of the gun. They look great.

The magazine catch hole has to be drilled a little higher than on the Sigma's. I measured the Steyr magazine and found the corresponding spot on the Sigma magazine. I then drilled thru the Sigma mag a little at a time until it clicked into the Steyr. Of course, I'm a dentist so I cheated and used my handpiece!! Don't oversize the new magazine catch hole!

The Sigma mags are a little thinner than the Steyr mags at the follower end. They don't secure as well in the gun as the Steyr mags. When the mag is full it's usually no problem. Empty, the magazine catch can disengage. I though about adding some lead tape or bonding some material onto the Sigma mag for better retention, but never got around to it.

I would not, repeat would not, use these converted mags for carry. However, having 17 +1 in a gun smaller than the Glock 17 is a blast at the range.

I will try to post pictures later in the day if I have time. Does firing line use the img url /img format?

My understanding is this is a legal conversion because the mags are pre-ban, and they will still work in the original gun.

I have 2 brand new sigma 40 mags, that were for a gun I sold. Buyer only wanted one of them. They are 10 rounders and I will sell them for $10 each or trade for GLock 22 10 rounders.

email if interested.
