Hello, I'm new here and wanted to ask your experts here what this stock is that I inherited. I'm having the hardest time identifying this particular vintage target or benchrest type stock. It has a hardened recoil pad and I don't know if it's original to the gun or not. It is a Merchon White Line Junior recoil pad which I have read are sometimes original on the Winchester Model 70, which is what this is very similar to, but it's not exact. Thanks for the help.

I read that the large ring Mauser trigger guard screw holes, From center hole to center of other hole should measure about 7 7/8 or 7.830. This one is approx. 6.50.

AFAIK, only Mauser pattern rifle's have a hole in the LH side of the stock inletting for the bolt stop's pivot pin tip, and you can see the enlarged inletting at the forward part of the action area for the Large Ring.
While the length of the inletting does look short, it could be for a Mexican Mauser (which is IIRC a shorter action, but IDK the exact length), or for a custom gunsmith-shortened action (Kurtz) - maybe why the wood between the magazine & trigger inletting is missing.

Not to start a big P-ing contest, but it looks like the recoil lug mortise is not rectangular all the way down, it looks like it has a small-ring Mauser type recoil lug mortise. In addition, it looks like it has a Springfield-type front receiver ring that sticks out towards the right with no corresponding swell to the left like a large-ring 98 would have. The inletting looks kind of strange, as well. The magazine box looks kind of short and wide to be a Mauser as well. Just not very convincing as a large-ring Mauser stock.
The right side of the stock where the tang is cut out does not leave me to believe it is for a Mauser 98. That tang area should extend further up.
Also there's a cut out where the trigger group and the magazine is. That wouldn't be necessary on a Mauser (unless perhaps it was mean for some sort of detachable box magazine version).
