Can my STI GP6 shoot +p or +p+?

How would you rate your gp6? I have been interested in them but finding someone who has shot them is not easy.

Whatever happened to this gun? I had almost forgotten about it.

It seems highly improbable to me that a recently-designed 9mm service pistol would not be rated to handle +P ammo (and that STI would import such a pistol), but if you don't have an owner's manual, you should direct your question to STI.

STI does not import them anymore, I believe century international does under the manufacturers name of grand power. I have not seen any for sale at the lgs but maybe soon? At least this was the last that I saw on the internet, which is not to be confused with actual facts.:D

STI has sent out mixed messages when they changed their website a few years ago all of a sudden they stopped recommending +p, Grand Power uses CIP and CIP 9mm is closer to +p than standard pressure SAAMI.

Virtually any modern, full-sized 9mm will be safe for use with 9mm +P although the use of +P will likely result in accelerated wear to at least some extent.

Whether or not +P+ is going to be safe is a harder question to answer because there's no established standard for +P+. The only way to tell for certain would be to contact the ammunition manufacturer and try to get a pressure spec for the particular 9mm +P+ loading in question and then contact the firearm manufacturer and try to get them to tell you if that pressure level will be safe in their firearm. Both manufacturers may be reticent to provide the information.

I'd probably start my research by calling Century since they are the current importer for the newest versions of the gun originally sold as the STI GP6.

I have a Grand Power P1 Mk7 and love it. Somewhere around I have a pretty big write up on it by itself and also versus my 1st Gen CZ P-07 Duty. When I get a chance, I will put it side by side with my new P-01....

I went to the range with a chronograph 2009-2-6

Kel-Tec PF9 9mm 3.1" barrel
1) 124 gr FN Hornady bullets, my handload carry ammo 1336 fps.
2) 100 gr Hirtenberger +P+ 1275 fps

I bought the factory ammo in quantity through ShotgunNews ~2000 and I loaded a large quantity of the handloads on a Dillon about the same time. I STILL have some of both left 14 years later.

My point is SOME +P+ is wimpy.
