Can I Shoot Light, Hot +P Loads Through 642?

I've posted before about trying to decide between POCKET carry revolvers. I like the 640 for replaceable front sight.

If I get the 642, can I shoot light Cor-Bon loads (e.g. less than 120), or will I have an unseating problem like with the 342?

Thanks,

Don't think so

I've tried 125 gold dot +p out of a 340 and had no unseating bullets, also I tried a 115 gr out of it with no problem (.38 spl +p). The 340 is 12 oz vs 642 16 oz. I think unseating only happens with .357 mag loads or maybe with modern light revolvers with +p+ ( not sure about the last one).

I've run only a couple of boxes of the light bullets though this 642. No problem with bullet pull.

I normally shoot 158 grain bullets in my own handloads at just silighly below +P levels. I use a firm crimp and have had no problems with bullet pull with these either.

With the light weight guns, your grip and how much the gun recoils with you shooting it can influence bullet pull. You'll want to run a few boxes of what ever load you try, before you settle on it.

Good Luck...

My carry gun is a 642. My street load is the Speer 135 Gr +P. This is the one designed for 2" barrels. NO PROBLEMS. Over 100 through gun so far. Wish they had these when I was still working. Great load.
