Can I get a second bead put on?

I just purchased a gun and can't get over that my old one has two beads and my new one only has one. Is there a way to get a second one put on? How much would this cost?

I have put 4 or 5 on in the last year on some of my guns, I did one yesterday on an 870 barrel. Brownells make kits for doing it yourself. You should really have a drill press to carefully drill the vent rib, but you may do it with a hand drill and a stop. Here is the # from Brownells #078-021-256.

If you don't have the mechanical ability, you could really mess up a nice barrel.

I've got two shotguns, one with a single bead, and one with two. To be quite honest, I can't tell the difference.

Should you decide to put on a second bead, please let a smithy do it for you. I'm speaking from experience. I did sucessfully drill and tap one rifle for swivel slings, and totally messed up another one trying to re-blue it myself.

Smithy's have the knowledge and the right tools to handle it.

I think I'll bring it to a smithy, the reason I'm putting it on is that it seems to make it a lot easier to find the target with both eyes open.

Two beads aren't really necessary, you can shoot without any, and I have many times. If you focus on the target, you never notice the beads or barrel if the gun fits. I have over 15 shotguns, and the ones with vent ribs I tend to want all the same, so I install mid-beads on them and Bradley white fronts. Still got a couple of barrels with plain brass beads, I will get around to them one of these days. The only kind of sights that really bother me is those bright colored light pipes that people put on the end of the barrel :barf: , very distracting, draws your eyes to the barrel instead of the target.
