Can history repeat, "This"??

I tried to discuss the Holocaust with an old man in Germany. He survived
WWII only because he was wounded, permanently handicapped, and unable
to be sent “to the front.”

He said it was forbidden to talk about those times. Forbidden by the
government. They had no First Amendment Rights in Germany. They still
don’t. The government can even fine or arrest you for singing certain songs -
today, right now, in the year 2000.

After many beers, he spoke of the Holocaust as though it haunted him.
These are fragments of that conversation as best I can remember them.

- “Did we know about it? Of course! How could they come and take away
thousands of neighbors and fellow workers without you knowing about it!”

- “You Americans. You think you can fight your government. You can’t. It’s
impossible. They come with men and guns and you do whatever they tell
you or you go with the Jews.”

- “It’s the government. It’s not my business. They do what they need to do
and so do I”

- “You just hope they don’t take you. Take the neighbors. Take my family
even but don’t make me go with the Jews.”

- “So what could you do? I’m only one man. What can one man do?”

- “We had no guns. It was forbidden. Oh, the Nazis had guns but the rules
were used in such a way that if you were not a Nazi, you could not have
guns. And what difference would it make? What would you do? Shoot the
government? One man? Nonsense! You will do what your government says,
wait and see, you will do whatever they tell you!”

They had no Second Amendment Rights in Germany - they still don’t. Gun
ownership in Germany is expensive, time-consuming, and very bureaucratic.

Do we still have our Second Amendment Rights here in the U.S.?
Or has the Second Amendment been nibbled away to a mere shadow of what
it was supposed to mean?

Walk into Sears and buy a .22 revolver without any paperwork. Just walk up,
plunk down your money, buy the handgun and walk out.

Does Sears still sell handguns?

When you go elsewhere to buy a handgun, is money all you need?

Must you register yourself and your handgun purchase with “the yellow
form”.

Must you have a CCW license or have someone else get permission for you
from NICS?

Does your state require you to be registered as an “approved” gun owner
(e.g. FOID) before you can even buy ammunition - let alone a gun.

I ask again.

Do we still have our Second Amendment Rights here in the U.S.?
Or has the Second Amendment been nibbled away to a mere shadow of what
it was supposed to mean?

Has our Bill of Rights been infringed? How much? How much infringement
will we accept “for the children”?

It CAN happen here.

The first picture on the Einsatszgruppen site is very interesting. It shows a jack booted thug aiming a military rifle at an unarmed man protectively clutching a small boy. It reminds me Of something I saw on TV yesterday.
Was it in Serbia, Bosnia, or Kosovo, or was it in Miami?

>>Was it in Serbia, Bosnia, or Kosovo, or was it in Miami?<<

Gee maybe the UN, or NATO or maybe the Warsaw Pact so get back togetehr and come bomb our infrastructure until we learn to treat children right!

And just this morning I talked to more friends in Russia and they DO NOT UNDERSTAND at all, even after an explanation, why I like being armed. They feel that the govt. does as it pleases and even thinking about affecting its conduct towards you and yours is silly.

I am *very* glad that I am here, too.

BTW, great site: better collection of images than any I have seen. Recently, I also found two books on Jewish guerillas during WW2 (Poland) and those were both good reads. Very good description of the odds they faced -- successfully.

When? Will they allow us to have Super-Soakers to shoot back with? All we need now is a demonized segment of society to turn the vapid mass of sheep against while the insiders of both parties finish securing their petty feifdoms. A vast Right Wing conspiracy, perhaps. How about it, you evil gun owners? Do you feel demonized yet? Why did you load those guns and hand them to the Trenchcoat Mafia? Why did you lend an Atlanta Daytrader your gun? Why do you not care about the safety of children and society? Why are you a radical, racist, militia-fringe-nut, survivalist,neo-nazi, paranoid?

This stream of invective has got to build to a crescendo soon. The possible results terrify me.

Before long, we may have to use the Second Amendment for what it was put there for, or face a long chilling future of (as Orwell put it so aptly) a booted foot crushing a face over and over forever...

Tamara's House o' Weapons: If we can't kill it, it's immortal.
10mm: It's not the size of the Dawg in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!

Well put Tamara,

I'm skeptical of the likelihood of armed insurrection by our fellow gun owning and non gun owning citizens.

I have little faith considering that most gun owners don't belong to the NRA or worse don't vote. I've always believed that if half (about 40,000,000) of all gun owners were members of the NRA and voted then there wouldn't be any infringement on the Bill of Rights. Groups like HCI would be scorned as the "lunatic fringe".

Membership to pro-rights groups and voting are the easy things to do. I just don't see many gun owners packing up their SUV's, leaving their suburban bliss, and heading to the hills to link up with like minded people so that they may start conducting guerrilla actions. The latter is the hard thing to do.

I too am tired of being demonized. I work in an Oshman's part time selling gun's. I have a friend who is a teacher and somewhat ambivalent about firearm's ownership, though she did enjoy shooting a rented MP5 last summer. Still she knows how to push my buttons and will say some incredulous things about gun ownership. I've lost my cool on occassion and said things such as "okay your right I only sell fully automatic weapons to elementary school children", or "yes there is a secret organization within the NRA that supplies guns directly to inner city youth". She tell's me that I'm ridiculous and even she knows these things to be untrue. How many people, who didn't quite make it all the way up the Darwinian chain, would actually believe what I said, though it is completely false? I imagine too many.

Likewise I've had heated discussions with my dad. He is a Ted Kennedy lover from way back. My father use to be pretty critical of me and anyone else owning guns. I told him that since members of our family are Holocaust survivors I find it abhorrent that he or any Jew would willingly speak of disarmament. He has since become more "liberal" in his perceptions to firearms ownership and rights. Now if only the Schumers and Feinsteins of the world could made to see the light.

Ultimately the morals and integrity of this nation have degraded considerably in the past eight years. This is courtesy of the silver tongued devil and his minions in the White House, who have been able to coopt the vast majority oF Americans into a false feeling of economic security (the Economy) with no apparent threat to our safety (no more Russia), except for the radical fringe that keep decrying these antiquated concepts of personal liberty and personal resposibility. Remember "it takes a village."

Thus I foresee an epitaph:

Here lies the United States of America, whose citizens freely gave up their liberty and embraced tyrrany, so that they may enjoy economic prosperity without the shackles of responsibilty. And in the end when they realized that they were not free, they cried out in one collective voice "yes, but we did it for the children."

Sic transit gloria mundi.

"Even if a man has no natural ability he can be a warrior by sticking assiduously to...the Way."

“You Americans. You think you can fight your government. You can’t. It’s

Dennis, one thing your German friend needs to understand is that Americans specialize in doing the impossible.

We've successfully fought tyranny before, and we'll by g-d do it again.

Ah, Coinneach, my friend. How few of us remain among the apologists.

Either you believe in the Second Amendment or you don't.

Noooo, I think we're still doing the impossible.
It's impossible to believe that a whole country could still be sitting on their hands after seeing, and hearing some of the testimony of Waco. That's right, it wasn't covered on every major network until it was the only thing being aired. Or at least without mention that the people inside were suicidal lunatics, intent on self immolation.

How many people still believe that Jonestown was really a mass suicide? What gave anyone the idea that it was a mass suicide?? The media you say!! Hmm, imagine that.

We still perform the impossible daily. We go to work, pay ridiculous prices for fuel, food, services. We pay taxes on taxes. We have people living in cars, and under bridges.

We have a leader who has apparently sold our national security for a fistfull of dollars. A leader who cares little for anything resembling due process, or life. Yes we do the impossible every day, we tolerate this destruction of our nation, our vitality, our soul, our future...

Impossible.

Best Regards,
Don

The most foolish mistake we could make would be to allow the subjected people to carry arms; history shows that all conquerers who have allowed their subjected people to carry arms have prepared their own fall.
