Can anyone tell me what gun this is, who made it.

Hey everyone.

My grandparents left me what appears to be a .410 shotgun. I say its a shotgun b.c it has a smooth bore and extractor for a shell.

I was told it is from England.

Well, if the maker didn't care enough to put his name on it...

There were a lot of simple sidelever single shots in late Century XIX.
Transcribe the markings on the barrel underlump and look for proof marks. Maybe somebody can decode them.

It has a two leaf rear sight so it probably was not originally a .410 smoothbore. A lot of nice old rifles were ruined in England, people would have them bored out into "shotguns" rather than jump through all the hoops to get the firearms certificate required for a rifle. At one time shotguns were not papered and even after they were, it was a lot easier to get them licensed.

The text on the side of the barrel lock is a patent number "ORJID PATENT"

7. crown with cursive style text below (cant tell what the initials are) below the crown.
