can anyone recommend a good red dot scope???

I see the Aimpoint 9000SC on sale at Midway sometimes for $225.

That's a great deal, I think. It's not currently on sale though.

BSA has several in their line on the "cheaper side". Their holographic sight I put on my Browning BM works fine.

Depending on your personal preferences and/or mission requirments:

Eotech

Or

Aimpoint.

Between the two they are the Best in quality, durability, and are both proven by extensive deployment by United States military, and many other nations, military forces. They each have their advantages.

I prefer Aimpoint myself, but a lot of that has to do with my vision. I do own both. Everyone prefers the battery endurance of the Aimpoints. My M3 I just changed the batteries for the first time, 5 years, and it is left on 24/7, it is on my go to Home defense carbine.

I have an Aimpoint M3 on my XCR, a micro T1 on my SCAR, a 5.12 Eotech on my Beretta Storm.

I just got a SIG 556 which comes with a fairly nice reddot of it's own. I plan on putting the SIG reddot on my S&W 522 22lr, and get an Aimpoint H1 for the SIG.

On all the Aimpoints I use Larue Tactical quick detach mounts. They do return to zero. On my Eotech, I only have the one, I use a GGG mount.

There are other products that work. None of them have the proven qualities of the Aimpoints or Eotechs.

Good luck.

has to be a little bit on the cheaper side

Go with a Tasco or Simmons. If you are setting this up for hunting in a more harsher enviroment, stay away from the panaramic or open types. Remember that you said cheap. UltraDot would be my next suggestion. :)

Be Safe !!!

Millett SP-1 (1") Millett SP-2 (30mm) about $135 retail . No magnification though . They work great on a turkey gun . Those real cheapies don't handle recoil very well . ;)

red dot reccomendation

I have a Millet sp-1 on a 454 casull-- ruger super redhawk.

I am not a red dot expert. But I can say this one is can handle extreme handgun recoil. I intially had problems with scope mounting screws repeatedly working loose---- until I used lock-tite. But that wasn't a scope problem-----

Eotech

I have an Eotech 552 on my DPMS 7.62x51 and a 4-12X50 on my Rock River Arms M4. The Holoscope fits on my flat top, and I have a riser on my M4 with its flat top. You have to take off the Tactical carry handle. The sights don't fit.
With a see thru riser you can use the tunnel and the front sight post in a close in situation.
I would have no qualms about swapping out the optics between these rifles, same application.
