Hey guys i have a Galco SOB which is great when it is cooler out but need something else. I dont really like IWB holsters and don't want to have to buy all new pants that are slightly bigger than my size.I want to get a good hip holster preferbly Galco, but iam open to other makers also. Also Galcos are not cheap around $70-90 depending on the model and color. Any help would be great.
Thanks,45automan

Mitch Rosen
Their express line prices are comparable to Galco's. Quality is much higher though.

Kramer Leather
They are GREAT to deal with. I prefer Rosen's products. Kramer products are good quality but the Rosen holsters fit me much better. I buy stuff from them just because they go above and beyond being nice.

Milt Sparks
Same deal, extremely enjoyable to deal with

Lou Alessi
Very good quality at a resonable prices

45automan,

ArmySon gives good advice here. I would add that I like the Pancake design for concealment purposes. This design pulls the gun butt close to the body, making the total concealment of big guns like a 1911 possible. It is also secure and reasonably fast. If you want to go with Galco, their Pancake design is called the Concealable, and it is top notch. I would also suggest getting the matching gun belt. I think it's actually cheaper to get the Rosen express line 5JR and matching belt, and they probably have it in stock or could get it to you in a couple weeks. When I carry a big gun in a Pancake, I simply wear it over a tucked in t shirt and wear an open, untucked solid color short sleave casual buttondown or a henley over it. If it gets windy, I button up.

I forgot to mention, if you decide on a Rosen holster, give First American Ordnance a shout. They stock Rosen products and ship anywhere. That way you won't have to wait. I would suggest getting a Rosen Express pancake and a Ted Blocker Belt from them. The Blocker belts are double thickness and are GREAT. The cost is only $30. I like them just as much as the high price Rosen belts.

I am staying away from Galco in the future...according to my guru (who founded the Steel Challenge) they don't support the shooting sports. Until i hear otherwise.....

Rosen's stuff is exquisite, and is Ken Null's. I prefer IWB for full-size guns, and the 1911 is comfortable imo.

I've handled most of the above before but settled on M/D Enterprizes. Mark makes the best holsters I've used. Galco, Bianchi and Mitch Rosin don't begin to compare. http://www.customholsters.com/

Here's the one I got (except it was for a Browning Hi Power)

I've been super pleased with it, with Mark's holsters you really do get what you pay for, and then some.

For an outstanding belt slide holster at an unbelievably low price try Ron Graham at grahamscustomgunleather@bigstep.com. You will not regret it.

Uhm, putting a Mitch Rosen product in the same breath as Bianchi and Galco is an insult.

The Galco "Concealable" is the best I've found.
You might also want to check out the folks at DeSantis www.desantisholster.com
chedk out the: DeSantis style #01L-Thumb Break Scabbard w/ Lock Hole. $48.00

Good looking holster. I also like their
Style 02 - Speed Scabbard. $48.00

I intend to pick up both these.

I carry mine in a Galco Avenger. My SIG P220 that I carry daily also goes in an Avenger. Straight drop, very comfortable and easy to conceal. The Galco Gunsite single mag pouches are also excellent. All carries very well on an El Paso Saddlery 1 3/4 inch Ranger Belt. www.epsaddlery.com

Any of these guys make holsters for "long slide" 1911-type guns? I'm not being facetious, I have a Wichita Silhouette pistol that I want to use for pig hunting, and it'd be easier carrying it through the brush if it were in a holster...

45 Automan:
I bought my last holster from Jerry Haugen. He's a retired policeman in Bismark North Dakota and makes an excellent line holsters for all makes at a substancial savings over most others I have found. Excellent website.
