Yep, at least $3500 worth of treasures - some irreplaceable.

1st & 2nd Model Colt DS', a nice Colt PP, an equally nice early, pre-1911 Colt .45 Auto, a Colt Pocket Model auto, A S&W 38/44 HD Outdoorsman, and a relatively new S&W L-Frame.

.

$7500-$8000 depending on condition, original boxes etc

edit;
i was thinking $800+ for each of the colt revolvers and the 1903, up to 3000 for the 1900 and 700 each for the smiths. i added some $$ for a box or three. ;)

All I know is, if that's the 1900 model Colt in the top right, it could be worth more than the rest put together. By a big chunk. I'm not a collector-specialist of any sort, but...i seem to recall discussions of various pre-1911s...

The rest are great guns but nothing that really stands out like that!

Yeah...here's one that went for $2k and in worse condition than yours - more rust, aftermarket grips, etc.

That one gun could be worth $4k or a lot more - hard to judge condition from your one picture. Condition is everything with a major collectible like that. Even if worn, original grips would aid the value if that's what you have...

This page seems to show that military markings can add extreme value, and also show grips identical to yours on some models, so you probably have the correct grips:

Jim, If I'm not mistaken, his 1900 looks like one of the top 2 guns, that is shown in the Colt Link.
I searched the archives and found this from 2006:

This gun is a model 1900.
Well now... THAT changes things just a bit!!

MODEL 1900
- .38 ACP cal., 6 in. barrel, blue, plain walnut grips - checkered hard rubber grips after S/N 2,450, high spur hammer, sight safety. Mfg. 1900-03.

Grading
100% $12000
98% $9000
95% $7000
90% $5600
80% $4000
70% $3000
60% $2000

Add 60%+ for USN marked.
Add 50% for US marked with inspector initials.
Subtract 30%-50% for sight safety altered (factory refinished).

This model is serial numbered approx. between 1-4,274.
Somewhere between serial number 2,200 and 2,450, Colt began altering the sights to fixed sights in the production process, shipping both types. By approx. serial number 3,300, most guns shipped were altered during production. Guns altered during production are not refinished. Altered guns below serial number 2,200 were refinished, or at least had the slides refinished.

If I were the OP, I would get the gun appraised, and NOW!. Get it insured as well.
Check for US markings, can't tell if it has a sight safety(which I am NOT familiar with), but that one pic (and judging by the rest of the guns) It looks to be in very good, to excellent shape.

OP, could you get some more, detailed, pictures of the 1900?
You have an AWESOME piece of Americana on your hands, if it is what it could be...

Thanks guys here is a better pic of the 1900 Colt

My neighbor brought over his Colt gun book and this 1900 goes for 15k if original and never been blued. The gun is all original. Should I keep this one in a safe and hold on to it??

Me, I would keep it. I would also get it insured. I'm not sure of your age or maturity, but hopefully your old and wise, and won't pawn it in for a few extra bucks, especially if these were a "gift".

The guns finish looks pretty damn good. Does it have the sight safety?

Can you put up a detailed pic of the left side of the gun????

Yes here is the left side and I am old lol

I will keep it in my gun safe thanks oh what is a safety sight? do you mean a sight on the rear if so yes

Can you push the rear sight down, while the hammer is cocked? If so, this is the original "Safety Sight" design. Colt decided it was a bad design, and retrofitted many of the guns.
this is a Wikipedia entry on the gun(take it for what it is worth):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_M1900

Does the gun have ANY U.S. markings(especially U.S.N.) on it?

Yeah, don't force it (!) but if the sight "moves" in some weird fashion, odds are it's that bizarre safety and if it's got that AND/OR military markings of any sort, value can jump way the hell up.

Condition on that gun is far, FAR better than the one that went for $2k. This improved pic shows that the grips are almost certainly original and in superb condition.

Even if it doesn't have the sight safety or military markings, I'd be willing to bet this is a $5000 gun minimum.

The rest are "good basic guns" of one sort or another. Most could be pressed into street carry or home defense right now, esp. the S&Ws as they're more likely to be in good shape, based both on these pics and the strength of the S&W design versus the Colt revolvers.

I suspect the next most valuable gun will be either the S&W if it's a model 27 as I suspect or the next earlier incarnation. The Heavy Duty seems to be in good shape too. The Colt 380 though might be a contender for 2nd most valuable over the S&Ws, I don't know for sure though.

Jim

yes it does have a safety sight but no US markings. But the serial number is 454 does that make it one of the early models

I just switched computers, and saw that it's a 3 digit gun. You sir are one lucky son of a buck. I will bet dollars to donuts that gun is worth an EASY $10,000(to the right people). These guns are rare enough(do a GOOGLE search), and then to find one with the original, unmodified sight safety, makes you one fortunate son.
Protect it, Hell, I'd put it in a small fire safe, then put it in a Big safe. Get a good metal protectant(G-96 or Break Free) on it, then put it in the safe with some silica bags.
You aren't lucky enough to have the box as well, are you?

ETA: Since the serial numbers start at 1, and go up, I'd say you have a VERY early model.

I strongly suspect that is is the single most valuable gun owned by anybody on this forum, unless we include class3 (fully automatic) stuff that is artificially inflated by the 1986 federal law capping the number of such.

I'm almost certain it's the most valuable handgun we've seen show up around here. Ever. I think these things are actually worth more than an S&W Registered Magnum?

That is an amazing collection that you aquired there! Whoever put that collection together knew what he/she was doing. You are very fortunate to have that group of firearms.
