Can anyone explain the warranty repair process with Taurus

One of our officers had the Taurus 92 (Beretta clone) and lost the rear sight. Never could get Taurus to send a new replacement sight--owner tried, armorer tried, FFL/dealer tried. Officer had only that gun for duty use--no others. Finally got mad and bought a Beretta 92, let the Taurus rust under seat of pickup truck, pawned Taurus for $75. Another officer bought pawn ticket for one lunch, redeemed Taurus for $101, sold Taurus for $175.
 
The gun I have seems to have worn out. The trigger barely functions in DA, accuracy dropped off, binds very fast from overheating. I would be most happy to trade up to a newer model: has anyone been able trade a gun in and pay the difference, instead of repairing it?
 
Wow, I haven't had any problem with them. I haven't used the warranty in a while, say 2 or 3 years, but I have used it 3 times and never had a problem. The first time, I had to send in my slide for a pt-100 for finish problems. Then I sent in the barrel, and finally I had to get new followers. I called them first, and they told me where to mail it to, and then they sent it back, and new followers. All three seperate occasions. Since it wasn't the frame, I mailed all of it through the us mail. Hope this helps.
 
I sent a Model 85 to them with some cylinder allignment problems a couple of years ago. Boxed the gun, sent a letter of explanation. In about 5 weeks they sent it back with a letter explaining what they had done. It was fixed and no more problems. For me it was no muss no fuss - Taurus delivered.
 
Oleg, I've sent a gun back to Taurus and it was fixed and returned quickly. If I were you, I'd send it in. When I did mine, it was after the UPS deal, but I just didn't tell them what it was and sent it ground. (since it isn't law, but just THEIR rule, I figured WTF). Taurus sent it back to me NExt Day Air after the repair for free. I was happy with the entire transaction. I'd bet you get it back and either it's a new gun or everything's replaced. Make sure you outline every problem in the letter you send with the gun.

I could be wrong, but I think that you must inform carriers when shipping a firearm.

The only reason to declare what you are shipping if for liability, such as if it gets lost or stolen. Unless, of course, you like paying UPS an extra $30.00.
 
Tecolate is correct. It has been the law since 1994 that you must declare a firearm when shipping via common carrier.
 
I have never had to send back any Sig, S&W, or Glock that I have owned; but have had to return relatively new PPK, Taurus 92 2x, and Beretta Jetfire .25. At least, Taurus fixed the problems whereas the others did not. One problem was magazine release button flew off the 92, and a broken sear on a 92compact (neat little 9mm). Later, I made a mistake of trying to get a 22 mag revolver from Taurus repaired locally -- parts never came in!!!!!! Ergo, I suggest returning to Taurus for the repair there.
I hope the 2000 series of T. revolvers has improved as much as I have reading, cause that 617 could be my birthday present.
 
You only have to tell them if you play by their rules. Of course, you can't send anything over USPS anyway, so don't even think about that one...it's a felony! Otherwise, with UPS or whomever, the gov't could care less what those companies do, and ignorance is a defense when it comes to them.

Yes, the Federal Governments rules. You need to inform carriers that you're shipping a firearm. Don't do the time if you can't do the time.

Not for FFLs. They can shi firearms via USPS. In fact even with my local FFL's fee, having him ship USPS comes out cheaper than UPS.

My local stores insist that I can use USPS myself, according to their postal inspector or some such. For some reason, that store won't use USPS on my behalf though...I thought it was the other way around.
Has anyone a link to the specific wording for USPS rules?
