Can anyone educate me on the XDM?

Shoots great. Heavier than it needs to be. Spongy trigger. Looks like a double decker bus. Company is no friend of the 2A.

I sold mine but it was a good, reliable gun.

I'd have to agree with turtlehead. Having owned alot of different pistols.Striker fired Glock,HK,Sig, Walther and some others. I wasn't impressed with the Springfield. I'd suggest taking a look at some of the Smith and Wesson models, check them out see what you think. I purchased a M&P 2.0 with an optional thumb safety and was impressed with the pistol.

I have owned an XDM for ~ 2 years and I am really trying to like it, but can't. I don't like the trigger and my thumb usually migrates to the slide release. I am looking to trade it for a CZ.

I actually really like the XDM. I was planning on getting the 3.8" compact....until I handled the mod.2. I took a handgun course on Monday and rented the XDM through the whole thing. It shoots great, handles well, and I didn't have a single issue with it. It would be a great choice, but that said, I no longer believe that it's worth the ~$100 extra over the mod.2. I was hung-up on it being able to hold 19 rounds instead of 16, but the grip on the mod.2 is phenomenal and the 4 inch model is the perfect size for me (almost identical to the glock 19). Plus 16+1 rounds of 9mm should take care of anyone with some to spare.

So, if you find an XDM for a good price, I would consider grabbing it. But the mod.2, in my opinon at this point, is the better XD option.

I have an XDM 3.8 compact and I love it. I shoot it well, my friends shoot it well. I shoot it better than I shoot most other handguns. To each their own! Get it in your hands, dry fire it, even better find a range to fire it yourself.

XDM 3.8 in .40.
18 rounds that balanced nicely when full.
Decent trigger.
Pretty accurate.

The 2a stuff is important also, so buy used if you're going to buy. Don't reward bad choices.

Edit: I just checked in with the guy to whom I gave my XDM. He loves it and thanked me profusely.

To OP- I have the XDM Compact 3.8. It is the same pistol with the option of using the "X-Tension" magazine.

Built tough, 100% reliable with everything I have fed it, easy maintenance and as accurate as I am with a striker :)

That said, even though it is an XDM "Compact" it is not really compact, IMO. It is still a double stack grip frame even with the abbreviated 13 round length. The longer 19 round length makes it one of the largest handles I have ever seen on an auto pistol.

The whole point is, it is not easy to carry concealed. Again, it's the grip frame length and girth not barrel length.

As I speak, the pistol is in front of me on the table in an Alessi Talon-Plus IWB holster that was made for the Glock 29/30 so it is similar in size to those pistols. Probably a little chunkier as it took some extra effort to break in the holster for the slightly bigger sized XDM.

Great pistol but I actually find it easier to conceal a FS 1911.

I actually got a great deal on a gen 3 glock 23. In like new condition with factory stuff pls 8 extra mags for 400. I like it a lot.

bspilman,
Thanks everyone after doing some research I think I'll stay away from them. I think I'll get another FN.

That new FN 509 looks to be a winner to me. I own a couple of new M&P m2.0 pistols, but if I wasn't so invested, I would have picked up the FN509 the day it was released. I have not seen a negative review yet...
