Might have a trade deal coming up soon. I have a choice of a Para-Ordinance P10 or an Astra A-75 in Starvale Finish.

I have no idea what an Astra pistol shoots like, looks like, where it was made, nothing....

Can somebody point me somewhere I can find out more about the Astra?

Which pistol would you choose, given the two choices? I real like the Para, but I know nothing about an Astra.

I own a A-75 they were made in Guernica, Spain. Introduced in 1994 in 9mm&40s&w they were the smallest D.A. autos at the time. The .45acp came out in 95 I think. I have the blue 9mm 8 shot mag, [ the 9&40 use the same mag ] ambi decocker, steel frame [31oz.], 3 dot sights. Overall a really well designed pistol, mine has been reliable and accurate and well made although some I have seen are a little rough. I see them priced at $250-$300. Hope this helps.

The A-75 are no longer being imported. Astra merged or was bought out by another company IIRC. The only downside to the A-75 was the all steel construction which made the little gun very heavy for its size. There was also an alloy framed version which reduced the weight somewhat. Some of the blued A-75s had polished sides on the slide while others were matte. Overall, a very nice little gun, at least mine are. A little on the heavy side for carry. The only problem I have had was the right side plastic grip cracked on one of my guns. I had sontacted the importer and bought a couple factory rubber grips for the guns. Not as slimline as the plastic grips but functional. I think CDNN still has mags for the A-75. The mags will feed both 9mm and .40SW. In fact, one side of the mags will say 9mm and the other side .40SW.

There is a South Affrican manufacturer that sells a copy of the A-75 known as the RAP in both 9mm and .40SW. Identical gun (from what I have seen in pictures).

Thanks guys, you helped me out greatly. Since this'll be my new carry gun, I decided on the Para.

Already had a heavy little Spanish Firestorm 45. Got rid of that one because of the weight of the gun - it didn't like to sit right in the holster (it's a baaaaad feeling when you look down at your side and your side companion is aimed toward your essentials!!! )

I carry my A-75 regularly and really like it - utterly reliable. I even carry it in a vest holster as a backup gun on duty. As has been said they are heavy - I'd like to find an alloy frame version to try that for CCW, but the weight is a comfort and aids control of the .40 round.

The only question I've had about my Astra is the aluminum recoil spring guide rod. It gets pretty chewed up after a couple hundred rounds. I thought a steel one would be better, but I've got several thousand rounds through mine now and it's still going strong. So I guess the engineers who said the aluminum rod was Ok were right!

I've also seen a 10 round Magazines available - that would be neat. The only accesory problem I've had is finding factory made holsters...

You will like your Para - good guns, but whenever you adjust it as it sticks you in the ribs and wish it wasn't quite such a widebody - wonder what that little Astra would have been like... :)
