Can a Vepr be (legally) converted to taking 20 round mags?

I am very impressed with the .308 Vepr. I know that if enough American parts are substituted (10?) then a rifle can be reconfigured. (like all of the AKs that are being changed by different smiths right now). To double stack magazines and pistol grips.

Could it be possible to make a Vepr take FAL mags? Or M14 mags? I saw somewhere on the net (can't remember the address now) where a smith had converted a Vepr to taking Galil mags. FAL mags would be a lot cheaper.

Anybody know of any smiths who do something like this? Have a web address? Idea how much it would cost? Would FAL mags even work?

I just think that the best AK available would be so much cooler if it took 20 round mags.
 
I think it's mainly a question of money. How much do you want to spend?

You might contact Mike Prewitt (the AK guru) about the conversion. He also does a lot of work on FALs, which would be a plus if you wanted the VEPR to use those mags (inexpensive and good, why not?).
