Camp Perry ?

Has anyone here competed there ? I am curious about how they have different classes of guns. Is there a section for AR 15's ? Do they have to be all stock or can they have a scope ? What bullet is most used for 300 yds and beyond ?

Perry has two venues, the NRA and CMP. The NRA is more lax on what can be fired. The CMP is more strict keeping the Matches geared toward military matches.

Most people shoot 77 gr bullets at 200 & 300 and 80 - 90 gr bullets at 600.

If you're shooting the Presidents Hundred, or EIC matches your gun has to meet the CMP Rules.

I'd highly suggest when you sign up for the Matches you also sign up for the Small Arms Firing School. You use the Army's guns and they'll get you started on the right foot.

Thank you Kraig, I was hoping to find something with the results of maybe last years matches that listed all the information on rifle and ammo, but I haven't found that yet. A friend has been experimenting with 40 gr noslers at 500 yds and I thought he would have better success with heavier bullets.

What all ranges do they shoot at Perry ?

40 grs wont cut it. Wont take much wind to eat your lunch.

You' probably you shoot the NMC which is 200 yards standing, 200 yards setting rapid, 300 yards prone rapid, and 600 yards slow fire.

You can also shoot the 1000 yard service rifle match at 1000.

You need the proper twist to use the heavier bullets. Like I said, I use 77 SMKs for 200 & 300 and 80 gr SMKs for 600 and 1000. I have a 1:7 twist. 1;8 will work for 80s and smaller, but you need a 1:7 if you want to go with the 90 gr pills.

You should take in a High Powder match or two prior to Perry.

At least go to the CMP Website, go to sales then the e:store, click on the Book store and get the USAMU Service Rifle guide. ($6.95) best resource to get you started. Problem is they are back logged and it will be slow coming.

Might be quicker to get one at Amazon.com
