With giddy excitement, and possibly an equal - or larger - dose of trepidation, I am
happy to announce that CamoPicker 1.0.1.0 is now availbale to the the general public.

In case you've forgotten, or just haven't heard about it yet, CamoPicker is a Windows
application that you can use to assist you in selecting camouflage paint to match your
environment. You take a picture (or use someone elses), load it into the program, and
with the click of a button, CamoPicker will match up to the 12 most dominant colors in
the photograph with colors in the selected paint system (like Duracoat).

I think hunters, airsoft, paintball, and more importantly troops that are about to be
deployed (or that have been already) can make use of this program.

The program is absolutely FREE TO USE, and the web site is here:

CamoPicker Web Site

The web site is new, and the documentation isn't complete, but the program appears
to be stable and shouldn't give you too much trouble. I'll be updating the web page
pretty much every day to fill in the missing items, including providing a way for you
to contact me without having to use these forums. Here's a screen shot:

Looks like fun and like you say at your site it's free and open source.

But just to bust your chops a little:

I don't think Uncle Sam's kids get to ship their toys out for repainting or that they get to do-it-themselves (Hey, sarge! Check out my cool new combat colors!)

Anyway good luck. (And my reply did bump your add back up.)

Thanks for the program. Looks like it could be fun and handy.

Any chance of getting Testors Military Flats in there at some point in the future? They have more usable paints/colors for this sort of thing than any of the other makers.

They can, if you let them sit, but even then, when it occurs, its usually only in the muzzle area.

I have guns painted with them that have been painted over 25 years now, and they only show minor wear at the handling points.

The fact that they are removable is a plus to me. It takes a little work, but they can be completely removed if you want, and can you can change patterns at will.

I'll see what I can do then. I remember seeing a chart somewhere on the net that had a cross reference between the testors paints and the federal standard colors. If I can find that again, it will be easy (but a bit tedious) to add Testor's as a paint system.

Right now, though, I'm focusing on the web page and adding more weapon templates.

Hey, if you can get around to it sometime in the future, that would be real cool. And thanks for your efforts so far. :)

Looks like I'm going tohave to add Rustoleum too. They have five camo colors available.

EDIT ==========

I found that Testor's/Fed Std cross-reference chart - I'll be sure to add Testor's for the next release (as well as Rustoleum.

So I guess the troops CAN individualize their weapons with their own paint schemes. Wow, who knew?

I'll refrain from making any candy-apple OD or metal-flake OD comments or suggestions...although I wonder if guys in the urban environs could bling their weapons out a little...

I can't speak for the entire military, as I spent my whole time in the 82nd, but afaik there is no individualism in painting. Either your unit paints, or it doesn't, and you go with the unit SOP on the how.
