...HELP!!!

The Benelli B76 I bought over the weekend is an awfully nice pistol. Grips nice, shoots nice, and is very nice to look at, But, it came without a book. So, I have a question.

HOW DO YOU FIELD STRIP THIS B*TCH TO CLEAN IT?????

Now, I'm an intelligent guy, mechanically inclined, and technically competent. I spent 2-3 hours last night trying to figure out how this thing breaks down and frankly, it kicked my a**. I finally went to bed at 2:00 this morning, a beaten man. What is the secret password or did I not get the secret decoder ring the factory sent when it was new.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Unfortunatly, I can't help you. A friend of mine from years ago had one, and it was a great handgun, but I never disassembled it.

I do know that CDNN has magazines for it.

I'm not any of those guys, but if you'll accept an answer from a stranger... :D

- Lock the slide in the open position with the magazine removed.
- With a small screwdriver, turn both of the locking-piece support levers at the rear of the slide inward.
- With that small screwdriver, depress the firing pin head and move the locking support piece downward.
- Remove the locking-piece support piece from the bottom of the slide, making sure the firing pin doesn't escape.
- Holding against the spring tension, remove the slide forward from the frame.
- Lift the breechblock from the recess in the frame.

Gun is now field-stripped.

This information is in the Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly Part 1: Auto Pistols, 2nd Ed.

Phew...I'm glad Johnwill beat me to it...

Johnwill got it right. You'll notice that there is a locking block at the rear of the slide. There are two little flaps on the end that you open up. This releases the locking block and allows you to remove the slide.

Sorry-that's all I remember from my B76 days. Try the reference book Johnwill referred to for further info on fieldstripping.

Hope you enjoy the B76-it's a fine pistol, within its limitations.

Thanks, Johnwill...

...You directions to field strip my Benelli B76 worked perfectly! I was on the right track the other night. I thought that the tabs an the locking block had something to do with breaking the oistol down, but, being it was new, (to me anyway), I didn't want to start sticking screwdrivers in and prying things. Last night, I stripped the pistol down and gave it a thorough cleaning.

I shot it the other day, but it was pretty dirty at the time. Just wanted to makeure everything was working correctly. I can't wait to shoot now that it's cleaned and lubed.

Thanks again. I appreciate the help.:D
