I had a curious thing happen yesterday. My local FFL holder who had been doing transfers for me for a (very reasonable fee) told me he would no longer do them. He said that he had been audited recently by (I assume) the BATF and they took like two days on the transfer paper work. Therefore, he just doesn't want the hassle anymore. He is a small dealer.
I respect that it's his choice and hold no ill will because of it. However, I had never heard that it was such a hassle doing them. So could one of you FFL holders please explain the process and how it differs from selling a gun off the shelf including any extra "audit" related issues.
Thanks in advance.
