I never tried before...This A.M. I was bowhunting, and decided to give in a whack...They were all over the place, and were very vocal...I had 10 come in. Mostly jakes. I wasn't even ready...I misjudged the range, and whized an arrow right over a 8" class tom...It was really cool though...I never thought. They seemed to respond to purrs and puts the best...(these birds were Rios if anyone was wondering). Anyway, great hunt, and nice A.M. in the field. BTW, it was a COOL 78f this a.m.:barf:

Sounds interesting.

Which call(s) did you use, besides purrs & clucks (you said putt, but a putt is a loud, sharp cluck which means distress/warning to them, so I doubt that a putt worked to bring them in- you probably did a normal or soft cluck, right?)

yup...soft cluck & purr combo. I have been mis-calling (no pun intended) that for years...bad habbit. I was really amazed how vocal those birds were. They were very responsive, and curious. I'm not going deer hunting w/ out my call anymore in the fall. So many mornings I've heard gobbles, and never once did I think of trying to call them till someone else posted something about it a few days ago. I'm looking forward to trying again in a couple weeks when I get to go again.
