That 800 number is a semi secret toll free number. You've no doubt noticed that whenever NRA tells people to call their senators, they only give out the expensive (202) number. I suspect that this and one other 800 number I know about, are for congressional staffers. For years, I used the 1-877-762-8762 number to call the tyrants in congress in their D.C. offices, but it was recently disabled (probably because too many slaves found out about it).
We have a short window of time to call our senate tyrants and tell them NO to renewal of the falsely named "patriot" act, NO to turning the FBI into a de facto national police force and NO to the endless violations of our privacy (many of which become permanent) if the current "compromise" by the congressional negotiators passes. News reports are saying that the vote on the "compromise" will take place next week.
THIS IS GUN RELATED because this horrible abomination of a federal power grab allows the FBI to get gun sales records (the form 4473) effectively whenever the mood hits them. It's easy to sit there and say that they can already do that now, but a provision in the "patriot" act renewal WILL ALLOW future klinton administrations to create a back door federal registry by compiling gun sales records
I find this unacceptable and hope that enough freedom loving gun owners will get past their cynicism and call their senate tyrants right there in their cozy D.C. offices.
