California's new restrictions on ammo??

Hello all:

Yesterday I ordered some 30-06 and .38 super from Sportsman Guide as I have done for several years. I enjoy their surplus ammo, which makes for great practice session at the range.

Today I got an email from them saying that they will no longer ship to California, due to restrictions that the Calif laws impose on them.

Would anyone know anything about these new laws??

I am truly sick of these liberal laws that claim to protect the weak and innocent from brute gun owners and shooters..

Is anyone out there up to date on this ammo restrictions?

Thanks.

It is probably Sportsmans Guide trying to cover their ass. There was a bill being thrown around in CA requiring SN'd ammo, that didn;t go through AFAIK, maybe they wer overreacting to that?

Sportsman's Guide is well known for their overreaction to all things legal. Given that you are otherwise OK to purchase the ammunition, there is no legal reason you can't buy it and have it shipped to you by anyone in the country.

Whenever I get a catalog from SG in the mail, I just throw it straight into the trash. I find their policies annoying and patronizing.

Edit: I see now that the OP lives in San Francisco. That place may *really have* restrictions on mail-order ammo purchase. In general, there are no restrictions in CA for such things, though.

The problem with shipping ammo to California for vendors is local, not state, laws. State laws are difficult enough, but counties and cities throw in their own twists that make it even more fun.

Me too, They would not ship me 20 round AR magazines so I bought them at the local gun show.

Absolutely. The California Rifle and Pistol Association supports legislation that would cause State law to preempt local law where firearms are concerned, just to avoid that sort of problem. I don't know if any such legislation is pending now, but it would certainly help out in LA, San Francisco, and maybe other places that have local restrictions.
